I'm looking at getting a more advanced video editing solution (just iMovie at the mo) for editing hd 1080p videos for paying clients. Important features for me will be the ability to colour correct content, match across clips and apply local colour and exposure changes.
I guess the natural choice is FCP X but with such conflicting views of this should I go else ware? Note I'm a 27" mac user (i5 with 12Gb ram but happy to add more if necessary)

Interested in people's thoughts... Pref from real world experience

Ideally my max budget is £300

Not really, just editing software that allows colour correction and probably more importantly localised exposure and colour changes with masks etc... I believe FCP X has these features but others may too, although I can't stretch to the likes of Avids

Wow, but that's about double my budget I'm afraid :'(
I can afford the upgrade price :D

Edit:
But after watching this http://vimeo.com/29256397 it is a very powerful piece of software

Are you a student? If so you can get Creative Cloud for £25/month which is all of Adobe's software. If not you can get it for £45 odd/month.

You have iMovie on your Mac. It comes as part o the iLife package. You can do colour correction, exposure correction, and even Audio correction. It's dead easy to us, and if in doubt get the "Missing manual" for it. It's much more powerful than you might think.
