Collapsible out of focus backgrounds..?

Whilst that looks like a lot of money, it might be said it's not bad for such a niche product.

Oh, I agree Phil, and I'm sure it's well made too, but if there is something similar at a lower price then I'd be happy!

Get your own printed, but if you have seen the Lastolite ones used they work well

Mike
That's just what I am looking into Mike..! I can't see anything like the lastolite one at a better price so will see what it'll cost to get my own done. It's a voluntary project for a local school and the budget is as big as my pocket, so the cheaper the better!

I looked at buying one of these some time back, but I've yet to see an image taken with one that looks authentic, they look obviously like a background, which I'm sure is not the objective as in a normal coloured background

What about shooting your own background and using green-screen?

This is what I do these days: digital backgrounds - although not with green screen: I shoot on mid-grey and blend a wall and a floor in with the Overlay blend mode in PS. This way you get to keep the real shadows from the studio.

Howto:-

and if you want the background out of focus (which you do unless the model was right up against the actual grey background in the studio) you can just apply some Gaussian blur to the background layer.

Lots of fun (and funny looks) as you travel around collecting walls and floors :) Some of mine are from stock packs though - although the walls in the examples above I collected from around Rome.

Cool technique there Owen
