Anyone bought or use one of these pop up backgrounds...

Thought it would be more convenient and usable than a rail and stand set...

You get a grey background and black and white trained covers for around £70...

I already have a suitable holder than can be added to a lightstand...so another £10 stand would get me sorted...easy to carry around as well...

Thanks to all who comment...

It's not very big! 1.5m wide?? Ok I suppose if your using a long lens I would think 85mm minimum and head and shoulder shots?

I have something like this - black one side with train and white the other with a train. More like the Lastolite one and it's a fair bit bigger - I think it's 6' x 8' or thereabouts. Actually open to offers for it but I'd be looking for a little more than the price quoted there :)

I'm in Hamilton if you fancy seeing it?

Mine is more like the lastolite one although slightly bigger. I'm not 100% on the dimensions. If interested I can measure it. Bigger background will make a difference. The small ones are only good for pretty much head and shoulder or 3/4 length poses. Also lighting the background can be a problem - especially the white side.

I bought a HiLite so my problems were solved.

Any chance you could drop me a PM with a ball park & maybe a photo...

I was thinking about this as a travelling arrangement...fast to set up...and down...

I was thinking of this for my Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro...also thought the 50mm f1.4...bearing in mind I would be PSing any more length/width in white black background...or maybe I'm gettin it wrong as Im still quite new to this...

Feel free to push in the right direction...no offence taken here...

Yes you can PS the width if your whole subjects are located within the background. The width does limit you to probably a single person or a 3/4 couple (just)

Just limites what you can do. I still need to Ps width/height with my Hilite :)

Just measured mine - first time out for a while :)

7' x 7' fairly lengthy white and black train.

Out of curi...whay size is your lastolite...?

What size would you need to capture your average person...?

Suppose it depends how far away you are from them...and them from the background...!

large collapsables are a b****r to get up and down, you know how collapsible's rim warps inside? well count that in,, also getting the backgrounds on and off . and if anything Velcro's on expect tears pretty quick from usage

at least thats the one ive got,,, looking at this one,, your biggest problem will probably be it warping and getting the b****r folded up again.

and for propping it up, cannot recommend a proper set of stands and cross bar,,

THe warping is generally the wire having been folded the wrong way. Turn it back in on itself and that should solve the problem :) But yes they all do this (even small ones)

I don't find the large one any more difficult than my smaller ones. the HiLite was very difficult at the start but with use it becomes much easier.

Sounds quite good...a wee bit bigger...I stay over the other side of Glasgow in Duntocher...so a wee bit of a drive to see it...I'd need a ball park cost...maybe a photo to know if I'd be interested before driving out...as Im quite busy just now...

Stevie we could easily meet up in town or I could speak to a guy in my office who lives in Alexandria. PM sent.

I've been meaning to sell for a while and just never gor tround to it. I also have a smaller brown collapsible I never use and may sell that too. I mainly use the hilite and the black bottletop cover and also smaller a lastolite collapsible with a stand. No need for the B&W one any more.

I have a similar one, black/white reversable over large diffuser with train. I used it once and nearly decapitated a poor friend trying to fold the damn thig away again. Couldn't fold the diffuser back down so it sits in a corner never to be used again

Pain in the arse unless you've got a sturdy bar to clip it to at two points near the top

they don't stand by themselves with any kind of decent rigidity but i've found them easy enough to fold down and put away

generally i'd just go for the sheet and crossbar standard issue backgrounds :)

I have the Photodeals SuperCollapsible background with train, white one side, black the other. Cost me £130 and does an excellent job for going to people's homes and setting up. I attach it to a Lencarta background stand which cost me £80.

Once you've folded it up two or three times it's really easy to do, the white can get a bit dirty but it's simple to sort out any marks within Lightroom or PS.
