Thought I'd give them a try... so first thing Monday morning at work, I sent my first order to them online, for delivery before Xmas. 5 A3 prints, 6 10x8 prints. They turned up Thursday morning, and they're all brilliant. I've used Jessops online service and the results are nowhere near as good...

...so thanks to TPF for pointing us in the right direction!

(PS Order came to less than £40, which I was well chuffed with!)

Colab are the choice of many professional togs. I've used them for many years and I can honestly say they provide a first class service.

our competition prize is provided by them, top quality lab

Yes agree they are good but don't expect them to pay much attention to the notes you add if using CrystalPix.

Anyone used their canvas service as i am planning getting a few done?

You did use your 10% Talk Photography discount didn't you?

Why's that m8?

My first order with them was for wedding shots, so I added notes asking them to ring me on my mobile if they thought the colour balance was wrong.
I got a call on the monday morning from them saying that the colour was Ok and I could have them 1 size larger for the same cost

Fantastic service :)

I used their canvas service a lot but only for film, which involved a conventional print, then stripping the emulsion from the print like a skin and bonding it to canvas textured board so that the texture showed through. Superb quality work and very reasonable. In a suitable frame, the effect is stunning. I haven't used their digital canvas service, but I'd expect the quality to be first class.

Canvas stuff is still excellent CT and is done the same way.(making a print-skinning and sealing to canvas). Didn't know about the discount! B****r!!!
Is there a list of such things. Just spent £120 on a canvas wrap. Excellent job -but - discount. Deeeeerrrrr!

ive used colab for some prints and i was very very impressed, ive got another roll to do and i think ill be using their roll 2 cd service for it

before setting off trying to use the development gear ive just aquired :D

I agree with you about the notes being ignored on CrystalPixPro. My way around that is to always ring up and confirm. Bit of a pain, but you do build up a good relationship with them. I use the 10% discount as a member of TP. You enter the code on your settings screen before completing an order and it remembers it for you each time you return. I asked mid December how much longer it was on for, and the answer was a couple more weeks.

With regard to canvas products. I needed one of each as samples for a large school families Portrait day in November and got a good discount from Colab. At my school event, I sold 7 30"x20" and 8 15x12 of the canvas effect. IMO the canvas effect is more pleasing to look at than the more expensive Bonded Canvas. Hope that helps.:canon:

Nah, it wasn't a permanent thing. It was basically a temporary agreement until the end of the year, see how it goes, and discuss it then.

Best get discussing then, buddy - I for one am gonna use them a whole lot more! ;)

DF & GB - Thanks for the feedback re Colab. I have a couple of prints which they did a decade ago in my hall and they still look as good as the day they went up so expect they will be good at anything they touch.

The info they have on canvas printing is fairly sparse hence my question - not sure if they treated this part of the business as a "serious" one.

Thinking of getting some of my photos into print to sell at my own shop in first instance and want presentation to be top-drawer so interested in hearing from those who sell Hi-art prints already.

i will be talking to colab tomorrow to see if they wish to continue the deal, i dont think they will though as it was only ever a temp thing. We will continue to use them for the competition prints thoughm as they really are excellent

This offer is now extended till the end of March 07!
