this is more of a positive story and hoping it will help give other club photographer's a boost

as it currently stands im a club photographer for hall road rangers not a important team as such but still good to watch

last september area i was asked to pop along to shoot a few games and help the club with some images , not paid before some one asks lol

Since then the club have won the east riding senior cup semi final which means i get to go to the KC stadium for the finalfor free , and see the press box , be pitch side for the game , this may not sound great to some of you but i really cant wait to get there , it may be my last chance

i have just been given permission by the club to also shoot under 18's normally 3 games on a sunday but can be upto 8 games played in the same area , there may be potential for prints sold but not getting my hope up but a possibility

yesterday the chairman of the club gave me a box of bits and bobs free to use for the club but also give them as i help with the website

in this box he gave me was a a4 might be bigger graphics tablet corel draw 9 and corel paint 9 with 2 books offical on how it works and they were free for me to keep not sure how much it all worth but that is not the point also been told i have to be at the presentation eveing not as a photographer either , there is a free bar though lol so will be have a few drinks

i have also been asked to cover a 2 day event in which 60+teams will be going , this is a regular event and some good money can be made i have been told so fingers crossed

so i hope this helps other people to keep at it , im not the best photographer but i am trying and must be doing something right at the end of the day to get this great oppotunity

Well done Alex, sounds like doors are opening for you, the best of luck

Nice to hear a positive story - and glad that things are working so nicely for you!
It always feels good when the club un-expextedly gives you something as a gesture to say 'Thanks for all your hard work'.

Enjoy your day at the KC - should be a brilliant day for you!!

yeah, echo that, well done. Enjoy your trip out

I have the same at present with a Northern League Saturday team, they have just made the FA Vase final and they want me to go with them to get some shots, its at Wembley and I can't wait

Its great to see clubs giving that bit back to, well done

Inspite of constantly telling people to charge, charge and charge for your images. Sometimes it can pay to be generous especially at no cost to yourself. Today I sent about half a doz images foc to Kidderminster Harriers from Saturdays game. They told me up front they have no cash to buy them but happy to credit and post me a couple of copies of next weeks programs which they hope to use the images for. I'd already been paid for the game by NLP so agreed. Next season I'll be contacting them with a view to charging prior to the game (subject to being in the same league) and will now be expecting the call and of course they know the quality of what I can do.

In your case although not much option for selling prints the club obiously values your support and in a couple of gestures has done what he can. The two day tournament could be a good earner though and I certainly hope you enjoy the KC as I think its one of the friendliest stadiums I've ever been to.

Thats a great success story Alex.

I've been shooting Farsley all season and its looking like they will be champions if all goes well in their last two games. Also they have a cup final to look forward to so my last games of the season should be exciting. It's helped my photography no end being able to down week in week out and I'm now in the process of applying for Agency work:thumbs:

:suspect: not sure that's a compliment haha

Your work is good enough to work for an agency, it was a comment about those I have come across at matches. One guy really didn't have a clue. I'm not saying I know it all or am the best, just stating he wasn't good enough for what he was doing.

Like I said your work is good, you just need one or two shots in your portfolio that really stand out and make people remember you.

Would Sir like his cream served in a saucer or bowl? :D

That wasn't me sounding high and mighty just stating they take a lot of guys on, some of which are doing premier league stuff and aren't really that great!

Thats a fair point mate

I'm hoping when I finally do a game with a decent crowd i'll be able to get the memorable images

Memorable images can come from the smallest of crowds...I said a while ago about doing a photo essay around the ground before during and after a game...I think that would really help your portfolio. Some of your action, particularly your football is at times repetitive, thats the problem with doing one team at one ground. Try different angles/perspectives/lenses.

Can I just add my comment really wasn't meant to come across as arrogant or degrading toward any of the freelancers working for the agency on this forum, or the agency itself. it was more a comment referring to those who i've come across who have barely shot a game of football (their words) yet were at a premier league match.

It wasn't taken as such Kieran, but the chance of a tongue in cheek comment was too much to resist - hence the smiley! :D

agree with kieranmcmanus and james but as they both will know the only person who makes any good money [if thats what you want] is the agency imo

Congratulations to Alex and Phil and I hope all your hard works pays off guys you deserve it.:clap:
