Club Competition Judging - how you would fair?

It's one of our local club competitions tonight, and these 3 are my entries for the theme Coast - Mono print (before you slate them too much, please note that I only went to the coast twice this year! It is 70 miles away after all :lol:)

I just thought it may be fun to see how you rate them (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and perhaps why. Then after the competition I'll post the order the club judged them in, and pass on any comments I can remember too. There can be some very odd judging in club comps! :cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

:lol: How is that for putting us on the spot!! Judging in photography is comps is, by its very nature, subjective. However, go on, heres my order....

1st - #3, great composition, very simple shot, good mono conversion, pleaseing on the eye.

2nd - #2, compositionally ok, though the horizon isnt straight, but the conversion works and has some good foreground interest.

3rd - #1, too much of land/sky split for my personal taste, and looks almost like it is two images joined in the middle [sorry, you did ask]


NOW watch every one else say something different :lol:

Honest, but it's printed at A3 size and has had the PS ruler on the sea to ensure it's straight (club judges are mental on that point so we always ensure that's okay). As such a small jpeg, I agree it may not appear so - only mention it here so others don't knock it for that reason alone, as they won't do in the club where they can see it bigger

1st - #3. Great foreground interest. Lovely tones, and excellent composition.
2nd - #2. If Im being picky, maybe the foreground interest dominates the image, rather than leads my eye through the shot. (I didn't notice the horizon mentioned, but I do now..)
3rd - #1. Not too sure about it. The sky holds alot of contrast, but the bottom half is quite flat in comparison.
 
Just a quickie then

The result was...

No 1 - 6th place - which made it 2nd here

No 2 - 4th place - which made it 1st here

No 3 - 12th place - which made it 3rd here

So, errr, none of you got the order 'correct'

I told you clubs can be weird! LOL
 
Aye well done anyway. Looks like your club were wrong :D
