Hi all, sorry if this is a stupid question but is anyone willing to do a studio style photo shoot for free? I have a gym wear company and need some shots done of models wearing the clothing? Also an urban style shoot maybe in London but am open to suggestions (I'm based in Hertfordshire) please email me info@revolutiongymwear.co.uk

Hmm, this will be interesting. I suspect this should be in the Business section but having said that commercial shots usually involve payment!

Can I have some of your clothing for free? Not for shooting anything just for free?

As the dragons say, I am out, and anyone willing to shoot commercially for free is one of the reasons the industry is getting harder.

Send a free taxi for me,i am in East Ayrshire.:)

Not much of a business is it if you can't pay your suppliers. My free suggestion is that you start treating it like a business.

Any particular reason why for free?

As when I was on here a number of years ago people who were gaining experience looked for models etc to shoot so I thought I'd ask. Clearly I've said the wrong thing based on the negativity or just in the wrong forum.

Fair comment however @Karl1980 , "models" can be a tit-for-tat sort of exchange. commonly known as "time-for" CD or Prints so you'll see TFCD or TFP.
The photographer who needs experience gets a 'free' model, and the mode gets 'free' photos for her time with which to expand their portfolio. Both get something out of this.
In this case the photographer would hire the model, but would pay him/her in images. The model is not so much 'hiring' the photographer

Asking someone to shoot for your direct commercial benefit is unlikely to engender a positive response, particularly if you are looking for a studio shoot (which costs money).
Secondly, you're under selling your brand. I recently recommended that an aspiring male model goes to a professional studio to get some shots, and the results were far better than getting an amateur to do it.
He was representing his brand and using these images to sell himself commercially. Therefore the money was well spent.
Personally, (yes my advice is free :p) find a photographer whose style you like, who can deliver what you want. Hire them, get the image and style that you want and then put the expense through your books to make the most of it.
Represent your brand in the best way possible.

Shooting models is a widely used and mutually beneficial thing, but to ask for free product shots on an up and running business is a bit much tbh honest mate, why not post this in the job offers section and see if you can get a reasonable deal from somebody looking for experience...going balls out for freebies isnt gonna cut it here unless theres a good reason for it

Thanks. Saved me a lot of typing. :-)

Both.

i'll do the photo shoot for free - but you'll need to pay for the photos that result

I'll try to be positive...

Leaving aside whether or not a photographer is actually likely to do this for free, and will get nothing out of it except experience - what will you get out of it?
Your job is to sell the products, and if you're doing that online then you need photos that jump off the page and practically force the viewer to press the buy now button...
Do you really think that the sort of photographer who is prepared to work for nothing is likely to be capable of producing shots that do that? What you need is a photographer who has a studio, fully equipped with multiple lighting, and the modifiers that complement the lighting, s/he also needs to have a lot of experience with lighting clothing, because although clothing is a product like any other, it does have specific needs.

I've pretty much stopped doing commercial work now (getting old and trying to do less) but my day rate was £1000, in Bradford. Call that £2-2500 per day in the south, because that's what a professional is likely to have to charge.
Then there's the model, say £200 for each model.

Paying for the quality of the photography needed is just a part of the cost of being in business, if you try to avoid it you'll come unstuck. If you try to do it on the cheap you'll come unstuck. If you do it well, the expense will be more than justified by the sales volume.
