I've just bought a cheap EOS3000 for my wife, I'm having a bit of millenium Canon buying at the monent!! Its arrived, cosmetically looks ok, but the grip is shall we say 'sticky'!!

In its present state I can't give the camera to my wife, so what are the best methods of cleaning grip up, it feels like either rubber or some kind of cheap soft plastic. I don't want to use anything that might eat away at the grip, but at the end of the day its a cheap (very cheap) camera so if I have to invest in another body I'm happy to do so.

Wot Simon said. It worked on my Canon EOS30 which was a disgusting mess when I got it from eBay.

(y) Isopropyl alcohol - neat or diluted to purpose - is probably the best all round cleaner I know, and the least likely to damage anything. Amongst other things, I use it as a lens cleaner at 30/70 concentration with water.

FWIW, WD40 is very good for removing the sticky gunge left by labels. Much cheaper, and far more versatile, than the 'goo' remover you get in stores. It does pong a bit, but cleans off easily.

Just tried WD 40 on the end plates of an old pair of sticky binoculars hard work.....95% there...... but another quick wipe tomorrow and they should be perfect.
Thanks ;)

use it with a microfibre cloth for best results - just had to do this on my studio lights & a couple of the remotes. Wet the cloth, dab the surface, wait a couple of minutes - its got fumes lol... Then RE-WET the cloth, and rub off with firm pressure. Keep wetting it as you do this. You wait for the alcohol to do an initial job.
