'Cleaning Scratches' on rear lens element, should I be worried?

Hi All,

I picked up a camera recently that is in near mint condition apart from the one issue mentioned in the title. The rear lens element appears to have a number of micro scratches on the lens not visible to the naked eye but visible when shining a torch through. Is this an issue at all? I have the option to return the camera but have been struggling to find one in near mint condition. Will this have any noticeable impact on my image quality. i'm a complete novice so I apologise if this is a stupid question! I've tried to photograph the marks I am describing but they are only visible in very strong artificial light so my iphone camera can't catch them! Thanks

Have you taken images with the lens in varying lighting conditions and, if so, could you see any problems with the results?

Impossible for us to tell you as we've not tested the lens.

I doubt there will be any problem but it's pointless telling you not to worry.

What kind of camera are we talking about here? I'm struggling to visualise how you can see the rear lens element in a camera....

Please lighten up a bit. This is the 5th thread you've started since October about cleaning/over cleaning your gear.
Relax. You seem to have OCD about cleaning. You'll probably cause more damage trying to keep everything obsessively clean rather than just using the gear.

Hi, sorry if I sounded worried! I'm not at all but have seen some threads on here about rear lens scratches being detrimental!

Nope not yet, will take some shots tomorrow! I'm not particularly worried but people seem to worry more about rear lens scratches than front element!

Olympus Mju II.. i don't know if i'm using the right terminology!

Hypnosis could help ,it won't clean the lens but will remove the over concern with it.or rather put it into perspective,

this is a genuine observation of your posts and not me trying to be funny.

I am familiar with over concern myself with certain things, so just trying to help.

Don't worry about it. Use the gear. If/when you notice problems with your shots then you can look at what needs to be done.
Many on here have "damaged" gear and use it quite merrily. I had a 24-105 with two scratches on the front element. I used it for 6 years with no problem. Others can tell you similar stories. You don't need to be so obsessive.

I appreciate it, I have been trying not to sweat the small stuff recently!

From memory, this is a compact film camera isn't it with a non-removable lens? I'm not sure how that would get scratched? Or perhaps that is the mju I

Sounds like you should just enjoy taking some photos with it :)
