I have always liked a little classical music.....This is one of my favourites

anyone else...feel free to post up your faves.....

I have a ridiculously large collection of classical music, and these days I don't listen to it often enough. Thanks for reminding me.

Piano Concerto in A minor - Edvard Grieg.

I doubt anyone will listen to this in it's entirety, but I love it.

And if you've got 40 odd minutes to spare

I can't help but laugh when I see the name.
My mum used to call him "Rips ya corsets off"

How about this - pure emotion

Hope the link works

It does!

I too was going to recommend the Elgar Cello Concerto in E Op85! (y) I think it's my favourite piece in the whole repertoire but FWIW, only a wistfully paced Adrian Boult version with Tortellier or Cassals - nothing newer like the now standard J de Pre and Barenboim rock-fest!

And that's the thing about classical music. Like cover versions of songs, different recordings can be completely different music.

That's an interesting rearrangement for Viola I'll have to listen to in some detail

Jupiter the jolly my favourite of the Holst's planets

My daughters are both Violists :) This was played to the younger one by her viola teacher at her first lesson after the death of Jacqueline du Pre, who was a friend of her teacher. I've heard other renditions of this - including the Tertis - but I keep coming back to this version.

I tend to like the fairly early composers. I am not at all religious but the choral works for the church by Josquin and Monteverdi are simply wonderful. I also like Vivaldi, Corelli, Albinoni, Bach.

But for a bit of fun in murdering a perfectly good piece of music (even more murderous than Morcambe and Wise's version of the Grieg Piano Concerto) this takes some beating -

This is one of my favourites too. In fact my mum loved this piece so much, we played it at her funeral ... So thank you for giving me a few minutes to sit quietly and think about her.

Elgar, Cello Concerto - and the rather gorgeous Seeli Toivio...
