A sight to gladden the eyes of 'Darksiders' - a black Canon tele zoom!

It was CT talking about buying good glass being more important than a camera, and that they would last well beyond the age of a camera....

Here's the proof. A selection of 'earlier' L glass that I still use daily, and which prove as sharp, and reliable as the newer models.

All the L lenses here have as good, if not better MTF, resolution and vignetting results than the current crop!

OK, the 28 - 80 has an older linear motor. It's a bit noiser, but just as quick as the USM. They all look as good as new - testimony to the quality of construction.

I don't know what they are worth, but for certain, a lot more than I paid for them new, and you can almost never say that about a camera:lol:

Why are all modern L glasses white, it's a little annoying really, when i get some money I would like to get an L or 2 but the colour just puts me right off. :(

Well according to Canon it's because of the very special (and expensive) flourite glass used as elements in a lot of their lenses, which are more susceptible to rises in temperature - hence the white bodies to absorb less heat. We have to take Canon's word for it that it's necessary, but while it's a pain if we're photographing wildlife in our fairly temperate climate, there are users who expect these lenses to function in the Sahara Desert and on the North Face of The Eiger, and generally speaking... they do. :)
 
I suspect that some marketing bod at canon pointed out that if the pro lenses were white, it would show the world just what percentage of sports and other very noticable snappers use canon.


May well be the main reason they sell so much more of it than the equally good nikon kit. :shrug:
 
That is some very nice kit Doug.

So you've got the "black drainpipe" supposed to be at least a match for the 70-200f2.8.

betcha not planning on swapping any of it... no need to is there :shrug:
 
how do you find the 400 f5.6?

For a 400mm L series it's quite reasonably priced i think, not sure on the 5.6 ap though.
