good competition...

heres an idea - stay up 24 hours to take photos of a city through every hour of the day...

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm there leoedin... :)

You don't have to take 24 photos if you don't want to... just do whatever times you can make. Also, doesn't have to be the same day does it?

I quite like the look of this competition, not sure I have the ability to come up with any decent ideas nor if I did, to execute them as urban is not my forté, but I do think its an incentive to get out and take some pics.

Nice one LL...

Stay up? No, I thought I would just set the D200 to take a picture every hour whilst I do things like sleeping.... :whistling:

MM - I also interpreted it that it it is UP TO 24 pics, one for each each hour, but you don't have to enter that many. Living in London I am sure I can get one or teo together, though whether they would be upto the required standard is doubtful

Yup LadyLens, that's how I see it too. I asked my wife to have a read and let me know how she interpreted it. The only thing she thought that hadn't occurred to me was that she felt it should be the same town on all submitted images.

I tend to agree with that now too, otherwise there would be a plethora of entries for the larger (and more visited) towns and cities.

Yes, I was being a tad sarcastic. The idea is kinda outwith the competition, but I just thought that doing a 24 hour forced photoshoot might be interesting. If you were an insomniac then it might be something fun-ish. In a big city, it would be amazing to see how the place changed through the day and night.

So annoying. Live in Ireland buy the uk magazines coz none printed here. See the great competitions and great prizes but always for UK residents only. No Fair!!

 Now if I actually lived in the city rather than the 'burbs, that might not be such a daft idea ;)

"Cities and Towns" LL...

I have been thinking about this in some detail, and have already picked my 'town' and started mapping out ideas and thoughts for what opportunities I will have. I've written down many of the businesses, shops, restaurants and bars etc in an attempt to see if there's enough material for me to have a go at this. I am very curious as to setting the challenge for myself with this contest as I am not very good at spotting the good 'urban photograph'.

Next step for me is to map out the 24 hours of the day and see if I can then map one of the opportunities I have identified to one of the time slots.

We'll see... we'll see...

I have to admit that whilst sitting at home over the last few days I have been giving this some thought too. Living in London, albeit the outer edges, is a blessing and a curse for this kind of thing. Loads to go at, in many ways too much, and will be a popular location for such shots. Like you, spotting an 'urban landscape' probably hasn't been one of my best subjects. I can do the usual stuff, but this needs something different. I have a few loose ideas that concentrate on the detail of the working environment rather than the whole city, so going to work on that I think and see what I come up with. Like you say, if nothing else, its a personal challenge.

Bumped - all very odd indeed. I only ended up with a single entry, but I wonder how many people are still waiting for any news on this having entered as many as 24 of their images? - results were meant to be released in early March and we are now a gnats whisker from May and still no announcements. I sent an email last week, but no reply.

I'm still waiting.
Entered about six pix.
The Marie Celeste of the photography world !
The comp was well hyped with big names in photo world judging too... strange everything has gone quiet.

Something like this was on the radio the other day, apparently it has been done in Glasgow by a bunch of paparazzi guys and published into a book....some time ago though!!

Once again this had completely slipped my mind, but was just browsing comp forum and saw threads so went over for a quick looksee and the home page has now changed and they say winners will be announced 20th June, so there you go Rockshifter, fingers crossed ;)

Shame the link doesn't work!!!

ERROR!

Thanks for the update LadyLens.
As said above link is no good.
At least something seems to be happening.

LL
Link works but nothing new - seems big update due in next 4 days... possibly/not ???

If the last "results by date" is anything to go by, expect some sort of update early
October !

Cheers LensLady.
Just got back from a short holiday in Mull.
I've just checked and the winning image IS MINE.
I've had an email confirming I'm the winner.
The prize is a hol for two to Marrakech.
They've asked for some personal details and want to arrange some sort of PR.
Was well worth the wait !
How did you get on ?
Hope you won one of the prizes.
