Bet you thought that was a Photographic reference eh? :D

I saw an really old chap drive the wrong way around a roundabout today (hence the thread title), no-one hurt, just a few bemused onlookers :shake::shake::shake:

What's the daftest driving (or perhaps non-driving?) thing you've seen lately/ever in fact?

 dont get me started on roundabouts mate..
nearly every day someone cuts me up on one..
now id like to know whats peoples thoughts on a roundabout..

you come onto a round about with 4 exits the 4th being the one you came in on .. what lane would you take to go off at the 3rd exit....

 perhaps its me i may be driving wrong ill find out if enough people answer this thread...

Which ever lane the road marking suggest, or if there are none generally the outside lane (going round the inside of the island)....unless you are trying to get onto the M62 near bradford where they just have island with two lanes going round all way so its anyones guess which lanes you need - amazed there arent more accidents!

Some people just should be on the road :shake:

Rules of a round about is unless directed otherwise by roadmarkings or signs the left hand lane is for the first two exits of any round about.

I'd take the innermost lane. Many Inverness drivers will take as straight a line as possible on a roundabout, particularly those in the outside lanes who regularly cut across all lanes in front of traffic because they cba'd turning the steering wheel.

The town/road planners in Inverness seem to have some very strange ideas about lanes on roundabouts. You can go from 1 or 2 lanes on entry to 3 or 4 lanes on the roundabout and back to one or two lanes on your exit. I find myself wondering all the time wether I'm in the right lane since as often as not two or more of them will allow me access to my exit.

You are allowed to straightline a roundabout, BUT only if the road is clear of traffic and you have checked your blind spot to make sure that no one is there. Quite a lot of people just wander across lanes at will with is very annoying :bang:.

seems to me that the majority of people don't seem to understand;

a: the concept of using indicators
b: what lanes are for

i better stop now i think...ggrrr..

I think this is probably my biggest cause of hatred to other drivers.
I refer to them as the 'straight-liners'.
Seems not to matter whether you are there or not, the amount of times (daily) that I avoid having an accident through having to allow for idiots that do this.:bang:

It's not fair to discriminate against BMW drivers old chap :nono:

Parking eh? Now here's a funny one

Another old chap... nothing against old boys, they just do funnier (perhaps slower & therefore less dangerous?) things when I'm around it seems

In Barnsley's biggest multi-storey car park I saw another old chap not make the bend and scrape the side of his car badly against the concrete post on an up-slope. He stopped for a few seconds, as though wondering what the noise was, then set off again!!! Scraping another foot or so. Then he stopped again, backed up a few feet, and had a run at it hitting it hard this time and making a right racket. Then bug**r me, he did it again - FFS?

Me, I pee'd myself something rotten,:'( tears in the eyes n' all

When he eventually made it I ended up parked on the same floor (but not near him!), and could see him 'n' her staring in disbelief at the mess her side of the car was in

Reminds me of a few weeks ago when i told a bmw driver at work that the newest models have indicator stalks as an optional extra......then he replied "thats good, i never use mine might save me a few quid"!

hmmm...reminds me of this

i've seen the sae behavior as the OP only on a much bigger roundabout :O

as far as i was taught if your taking an exit less than 180 degrees round the roandabout (less than staight on)you should be in the left hand lane, if your taking an exit that is further than 180 degrees round the roundabout you should be in the right hand lane.

it is acceptable to be in either lane to go straight on if there are 2 lanes leaving the roundabout.

if that makes sense

seems to me that the majority of people don't seem to understand;

a: the concept of using indicators

its not a problem with not understanding the rules its the inability to execute them due to the fact that most car manufacturers (bmw being the worst ) seem to fit them as costly optional extras on their 4 door saloons whereas they are fitted as standard on the rest of the range!

ok so why do people who go onto a roundabout that are leaving on the 3rd or 4th exit stay on the outside lane the whole way round..

and this happens alot and i always seem to know when they are going to do it ..then they look at you in there mirra like ive done something wrong and im like what the fluff are you doing..

rant over

time for a drink..

I know someone who does not use indicators, says the position of the car in the road is enough to tell someone where they are going!! AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! My reply was ' If I had a nice Jag like that I would want to make doubly sure peeps knew where I was going! would want to keep it in one piece!' (they now use indicators! :p) See it's not always the BMW drivers!!!! :D

Yes, but you might wear the bulb out! I guess they can be expensive to replace!

Sorry people.

I have a bmw and If anything I over indicate! I've had too many near misses with people not too.

Now don't mention Rover drivers who sit in the middle lane doing 55mph. Or Vulva drivers. Just because your car has a reputation for safety it doesn't mean you can drive with complete disregard to other peoples safety (like those on motorbikes!)

Roundabouts should be treated like a clock, if you are going off before 12oClock left hand lane, after 12oClock right hand lane, unless there is a two lane exit for "straight across" then either lane will suffice, some have 3 lane approaches then thats an obvious one, now, this all makes sense to me, I live in MK the land of roundabouts and there are more cock-ups per roundabout than any other town I know, That is of course Hemel Hempstead, where you CAN GO both ways around the main roundabout......... thats a lot of fun :D
