Since we're now in December and commercialmas may be mentioned, how about some accessories that are almost must haves for beginners. Nothing too expensive - some may well find other things to spend their money on and leave the hobby, just the little odds and sods that we've all got in out bags that have stood the test of time and earned their permanent place there.

Spare battery (or more than one)
Memory card(s)
Remote release

For starters.

Memory cards, lens pen, lens hood if the person doesn't have one (generics are usually fine), bottle of isopropanol and microfibre cloth for stubborn marks on the lens. This is useful for cleaning quite a lot of other things too.

huricane blower - about 10 quid
arctic butterlfy - about 25 quid for a small one
spirit level which clips on the hot shoe - less than a fiver ( i thought this was a gimic, but someone got be one in secret stan last year and its right handy)

Comfortable strap, something like the Caden quick strap. Like a Black Rapid but cheaper, around £20, others have been mentioned, hotshoe level lens pen, rocket blower....

In fact I just did a video on this exact subject.
