In the spirit of Christmas - as someone has done something nice for me I thought I would pass it on.

I will offer to help someone with learning basic photoshop processes using Skype "share screen" I can only do this during the day.

This is ONLY open to regular TP members and for pictures that are "safe for work" :) If you are interested them PM me with your skpye ID and I will contact you as soon as I can. I have said CS5 as that is the version I use but most have similar basics so might be able to work out others

Thanks Wayne, I am surprised that no one has taken me up on it with all the questions we get here - maybe no one else uses Skype ?

I thought you'd have had loads of requests, very supprised no ones gone for it.

I would love your help, but sadly as I can't use photoshop I have never gone out to buy it.

I would be happy to get a Copy if I thought I could at least learn enough to get me by.

You can pick up elements quite cheaply if you shop around, especially version 10 now 11 is out.

Brilliant Christine ;) If I wasn't working during the day could have had a skype/coffee meet and a chat

Come on people what an offer ..Free Training

I'm just looking into a copy.

What do you suggest would be the best editing software for a beginner ?

It is not so much which is the best editing software for a beginner because as soon as you have started learning it you are no longer a beginner. It is more what do you want to be able to do with it, if it is cropping, changing colours and removing bits then you would get a different answer than if you wanted to create images from scratch or do really involved editing

Thanks.

To be honest, its more just for touching up my shots, maybe remove the odd thing, sharpen, color, crop or center and so on.

That sort of thing really.

How does lightroom 4 compare to elements. ?

Wow Christine that's a fantastic offer. Are you dressing as Mummy Christmas? ;)

(I've often thought of doing some videos about the pen tool and the often misunderstood dpi and ppi, print vs screen issue, but I'm not sure of the value of doing it).

Only if Mummy Christmas lives in jeans and warm jumpers !

Yes, please do one on the pen tool and how to get a perfect spiral. I spent a lot of time using the pen tool to make flowery brushes but could never get a really smooth spiral shape - or if you use Skype perhaps you could show me :D

Ohhhhher, there's a spiral in the shape menu. It's not a true spiral (if I can remember my maths) but it's there:

Custom shape tool (U)
choose custom shape,
Choose the ornaments option and there's a spiral in there.

However. I've never done a spiral with the pen but now I'm going to give it a go. I'll try by using the Fibonacci sequence and let you know how I go on.:bonk:

So here's a spiral made by the pen tool and a Fibernacci number sequence. That is 1,1,2,3,5,8,13... each number is reached by adding the preceding two.
The numbers relate to the dimensions of the sides of the squares as they are stacked in rotation.

here's the grid I used to construct it...

is this what you had in mind Christine?

Not used Skype for years. I should look again I suppose.. May do that tomorrow.

Hi Stephen, Thank you, yes that is what I was trying to do - freehand'ish and with a double line getting wider so I could fill it if I wished but this way would be a lot easier and then just "stroke" it as necessary. I am not mathamatically inclined but can see the logic to this and will have a go. Thanks again

Did anyone take you up on this offer Christine? I'd love to take you up on it, and can even meet up in East Sussex and go without the Skype! (I have CS5, but not yet learnt it).

Oh dear, now I want to see as well..... ;)

Hi Christine, Just a thought. Perhaps a secondary post in "Basics" might get you a better response. I've seen processing questions in there before and some might be scared to look in this section?

Wonderful offer though, the posing in Mrs. Santa outfit that is.......................

Hi Mark - thanks for the thought but I don't want to make a full time job out of it :) I have had Skype sessions with a couple of people and hope they learned something to help them with using Photoshop
Certainly did, many thanks for giving your time
