Hi,

I have just returned to SLR photography after many years absence. My camera is a Nikon D40X (18 -55mm + 55 – 200 mm lens). I have been greatly excited by the early results achieved from sticking the camera into auto mode and snapping away at everything from the Christmas turkey to squirrels in the garden. However, I have been somewhat overwhelmed by the complexity of the camera outside of auto mode and was wondering if anyone out there has any advice or pointers as to online idiot’s guides etc etc.

John.

Hey John :) Welcome to the forums. The best thing I can recommend is the cameras manual to be honest. If you know the basic terms etc the manual should be able to explain what does what in a nice specific way for your camera :)

Hi John and welcome:wave:

Hi and welcome, John.

The thing I was instantlychuffred with when I first got a DSLR was being able to change ISO settings from one shot to the next. After the restrictions of film, I loved that (saddo, eh!).

I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with your D40X - happy New Year :)

Hello and welcome

for me, apart from being able to change WB and ISO on camera using a DSLR is no different from a film SLR,

and of course so many more shots for the penny:D
