Hi everyone

I bought a D40 about a year ago and only used the 18-55mm kit lens up until now.

I have a need for an "all-rounder" lens with more reach, so I'm considering buying one of the lenses below (because of budget constraints I'm opting for Sigma).

Sigma 18-125mm f3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM Lens - Nikon Fit

Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens - Nikon Fit

There is not a big price difference between the two, but I'm really torn on this one. Part of me thinks the 18-125mm will be a better buy, because it's smaller and lighter and as a result it will be easier to carry around and it won't look too bulky on the D40.

But then a little voice tells me that I might as well go for the 18-200mm, because it only costs 40 quid more.

Does anyone own one of these lenses? I'm looking for some practical, objective advice.

Thanks

I generally use the Nikon 18-135mm. Its a cheap lens in some respects (plastic mount etc.) but it produces really good, sharp images and weighs very little and I'm fairly sure it will autofocus on your D40.
However, if you can stretch to it the 18-200mm is a seriously good lens for a walkabout and I would probably recommend it over the 18-135mm.
