Ok so I'm at a point where I'm able to sell my 5dmkii and have the funds for a mkiii but now I'm considering adding another piece of L glass to my collection, I mostly shoot portraits and candids but dabble in most areas.

At the moment my glass includes 24-70 2.8L 70-200 f2.8L 50f1.4 and an 85f1.8 so do I upgrade my 85 to the red ringed monster that is the 1.2 or are there any other options you guys could recommend my budget is around 1k and I'm open to all sensible suggestions. I've never tried macro photography but see the 105 L series is a cracker for portrait work too :@ help me please!!!!

I've never tried the 85 1.8, but I did buy the 1.2L yesterday.

I felt a bit aprehensive handing over all that money, but after taking a few shots at 1.2 I was blown away with how good it is and don't regret my purchase at all :)

Example @ f1.2:

The eyes are tack sharp even fully open :)

On the subject of 85mm's...

The Canon 85mm f1.8 can't match the alternatives for Bokeh, IMVHO, unless you like the angular bokeh that it can produce.

I went for the Sigma 85mm f1.4 and it's very probably the best AF lens I've ever used and from what I remember reading in reviews the Sigma will focus faster than the Canon f1.2. Mine is sharp from f1.4 and even better (IMVHO) than their highly regarded 50mm f1.4 which I also have. I don't use my 5D much and I haven't used the 85mm for a year or so but the combinbation of FF and the Sigma 85mm f1.4 seems to work very well.

Unless you have some good reasons to change, sounds like a bad attack of GAS - which is fine, so long as you recognise it for what it is. But it will keep recurring unless you can find something that is both shiny and new, but also takes your photography forward in a practical sense.
