Can a single parent leave work to look after a baby? Do you get benefits straight away?

I dont know but there is a website for the DWP which has a thing you can fill in to see. Fill it in as if you had given up work and see what it comes up with.

Go to see a welfare rights officer you should be able to find one from your local town hall .They will advice you on everything you need to know about claiming your benefits and help with any forms you need to fill in and its free so dont pay anyone for help and advice.
