Yes
I really fancy doing some landscape photography in Iceland and am not averse to paying for a workshop, however most of these are north of £2000.
Wowcher are doing Iceland trips of 3/4 days for a couple of hundred pounds. I do not know anything about the geography of the country but is it feasible to take one of these deals then hire a car and do a DIY trip the the photographic areas or do you really need to know the country well to do this?

Plenty of information on TP and the web about Iceland. There is one main road that goes around the coast.

You won't get around the whole of Iceland but some great areas on the south and south east coast.

Cheers.

12 of us from here went last year. Total cost for 10 days including flights, accommodation, 4x4 vehicle hire and sundries such as food came to an average of £1000/£1200.
Go by yourself or get a few friends together. It is easy. The natives are very friendly.

If you are going on your own, then those trips aren't worth while as they are per person with a minimum of 2 people. Plus whenever I look at them, it seems a bit meh of photography as you're stuck doing bus tours.

I was going to go in May but something came up. Now I am hoping to either fit something in early October.
Easyjet flights are around £130 with hand luggage. Car hire for something like a Hyundi i10+ insurance for a week is around 500 euros from www.geysir.is
I'll try to stick to hostels to bring costs down, but if I am on my own sleeping in the car is a thing I do to save hotel costs... as long as it isn't too cold :p
I'd probably do the whale watching, I believe that is around 70 euros.

Hiring a campervan is a possibility, and some come with webasto heaters so you don't need the engine running to keep warm.

I'm off there next week - short trip with Tatra Photography. Northern Lights Weekend trip - 4 days, 3 nights. It wasn't cheap cheap, but £1395 all in, Flights, transfers, accom, full board. Have been wanting to go for years, and when I got the email with the price reduction, last weekend, I sacrificed a pending lens purchase for it. Hoping to go next year for a longer trip, but this will be a good taster I hope. Excited like a kid.

I went with wild photography holidays and 9 nights cost me about £2500 includes all meals and accommodation and transport. Single rooms no single supplement on tour I went on. I actually thought the price was well worth it for what I got in return.
