Just bought this:

http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=99657

Comes with optional knob to turn it into a walking stick.

I rarely use a support, and lugging tripods around for the odd occasion I need them is too much like hard work. I am very poor so couldn't afford a Gitzo or whatever, and somebody recommended this to me. I wsn't expecting much, but actually I'm impressed. Obviously you don't get tilting angled head thingies and all that, but it's pretty well made, sturdy enough for me to lean my hefty frame on. Took 3 days to arrive, although the knob was sent seperately for some reason and hasn't arrived yet. A good buy IMO.

Got one off Ebay Item number: 280231212178, SLIK 350 for £17.95 + £2.80 nice quality too. Looks nearly the same a good price that. Found a monopod invaluable at some of the events I go to, mainly where I can't use a tripod.

Looks very similar, though Slik are usually well made - I have a small Slik tripod. I find I often hold the camera and the tripod together, with the tripod acting just as an extended grip - so a mono makes much more sense. Plus it doubles as a walking stick for us older and more doddery folk ;)
