Im not a massive fan of OTT HDR but I do like some of the mild forms it can give. Im currently trying out the trial hdr program from Photomatix but i don't think I want to be paying £60 for it as it might just be something I want to dabble in now and then! Is there a cheaper alternative?
Obviously with the trial you get there watermark stamped all over it!!

If you're already using Photoshop then it's got a HDR tool. It takes a bit more learning than Photomatix, etc, but I prefer the results.

I find PS produces the best results. I used Photomatrix and didn't like the look. If you don't have PS the CC version is affordable by paying for a month

Enfuse is a great program for HDR, plus it can also do focus stacking and image stacking for astrophotography. You do however need Lightroom, as it only works as a plug-in for Lightroom. Since getting it, I've stopped using Photomatix. I really like the results.

Best of all, it's donationware, so you just pay whatever you want/can afford/think it's worth. There's an article about it and a link to the download here. http://www.photographers-toolbox.com/products/lrenfuse.php

so i have sent money and received nothing!! How long does it take to come through??

You download it from the same page you made a donation on, from link at the top of the grey box on the right hand side of the page where you donated. If you don't receive your registration key, at the bottom of the same grey box is a button that says" Lost your registration?". Click on that.

One of the best HDR programs I have is Easy Hdr Pro which works very well on even a single image.

It also allows batch processing of many images at once whether single images or multiples.
.

when i try to add LREnfuse.lrplugin.4.31 (1) to add-on-manager in LR its saying that the file name is not valid?

Typical i have managed to sort it but now the activation code isn't coming through!!

FWIW, I've dabbled with "Luminance" which is a free HDR programme.

Luminance HDR is open source and has all the latest algorithms from Academic Institutes.

No you don't need Lightroom. You can run enfuse from Digikam or EnfuseGUI. Both of which are free.

One of the monthly photography magazines (I'm not going to advertise it, but it comes inside a plastic wrapper) is this month giving away a Full Version of Photomatix Essentials 4.

You can't get much cheaper than that.
