Cheap flash for Canon

I'm in the market for a cheap couple of flashes. I just need reliable manual flash which I can use with my 600EXs and also with Elinchrom studio lights. I don't mind cheap ;) and I was considering Yongnuo flashes and I would be particularly interested in using their optical slaves to fire them.

I know some of their flashes will work with the Canon IR wireless but this obviously isn't an option with the studio lights, hence my interest in optical method. If anyone can recommend a model of YN flash and also give some view on the reliability of the optical slaves I'd be interested to hear.

I still have a pair of YNs I use for ocf. Robust and reliable. Good n cheap :)
 
I have a couple of yn560iii's for ocf and great kit for the money (build quality similar to my Canon 580exii), handy as well if you're using the rf602 / 603 triggers as the 560iii has the receiver built in :)

used them using s1 optical as well and can't recall any issues.

The yn 622 wireless system is much nicer to use than optical flash
Yn 560 is good solid option
