Anyone bought one of those £10-15 light tent thingies with the 4 coloured backgrounds?

The backgrounds seem quite 'creased' -- has anyone got any more detailed pics of the materials and inside the box as well as any sample photos achieved?

I haven't used them myself sorry but I have looked at them and considered buying one and also noticed the creased backgrounds. I reckon if I buy one I'll just ditch the backgrounds and get some nice black velvet and some other coloured cloth to use instead though if the ones with it are as bad as they look.

Tommy.

Mrs Cowasaki bought one with two mini studio lights. The creases are not really a problem if you have an iron  What are you wanting to photograph, we bought it to photograph her jewellery (she is a gold smith) but it wasn't ideal. I have seen a few really good results though.

I am going to go for the next thing up (eventually), one of those light table things that look like a folding deck chair with some translucent material on it but the price is rather more at about £140. I did see one at the international jewellery show with lights at £550 but I already have studio lights so that was overkill, probably.

It might be worth going for one of the ones with two studio lights, ours cost about £28 inc postage with the lights. Unfortunately we couldnt get new bulbs for them so I ended up re-wiring them for low voltage bulbs but you can actually buy the mains ones now.

I was gunna bung a 580EX II either side...?

You could, of course, make your own - cardboard box, some white muslin, or even printer paper and a bit of card or cloth for the backround.

5 minutes work, cost? naff all

I want something a little more... 'Non-skank Looking' to take to customers houses. I know a £15 light tent isn't saying much, but it beats taking a DIY cardboard box.

Hi I have one from eBay and use 2 x daylight bulbs 1 on each side and have had good results, when it comes to it you get what you pay for.

Well, I'll order one, I guess.

I'll fire a 580EX II through the back, and two 580EX II's through the sides. Hopefully I'll get decent results.

Maplin had these at half price a few weeks ago.

Sorry don't know if the're all gone.

I bought a 50cm one of these and received all the bits to have a ten minute experiment last night.

I am using it with two desktop lamps fitted with 100 watt equivalent daylight eco bulbs. I am pleased with the results but yes the creases are an issue if you don't iron them out.

I am going to post a few pics in the lighting section later for some advice / C&C.

I have an 80cm bought a couple of years ago with daylight rated desktop lights, however generally I have used it with flash recently and it does the job nicely. Wouldnt worry about creased backgrounds, folding for storage will do that anyway, but a warm [not denim hot] iron sorts them out if youwant to use them, or get some nicer none creasing fabric such as velvet.
