Light tents suck... but diffusion domes don't (as much). They're particularly good for macro flower type shots.
You can buy a commercial version for about $150 or you can get one of these.
On the left is a $10 lamp shade and the other is a bin I picked up at the dollar store and cut a hole into. Both are larger than the $150 commercial version.
And here is a quick example image taken with a Nikon1 and two household LED lights. (I could improve upon it with a better camera and more effort)
