HELP!!:D

I am taking my daughter to London sat/sun 17/18th August for 'Summer in the City' you tube convention thingy at Alexandra Palace, the problem is looking at premiere Inn anywhere around/ near it they want approx £180 for one night and i just don't have that kind of money:'(:eek:

Does anyone know of a little B&B around that way that would be loads cheaper?

I don't really know London well enough to be traveling all over the place and just as confused with tubes, so ideally needs to be straight forward, plus whilst she is at the convention i am wandering around for the days with cam so something as close as would be better so i can go back if needed

Ta muchly..X

a quick google from knowing the local place names...we only live about 4 miles away

are just two in Muswell Hill, easy walking distance to Ally Pally, a great area to walk round with camera and no need to go near a tube

You will struggle to find anything super cheap I'm afraid, its London, the £40 a night b&b room doesn't exist and if does, you probably dont want to go anywhere near it. :gag:

Also, my fear would be finding a room at all, if there is something big on at AP, rooms are booked months in advance. :(

Thanks Yv i did assume realistically that the £40 usual premiere inn type rooms would be non existent, just hoped. i shall try calling the hotels in the morning with crossed fingers, if not i think we will have to look at staying out of london but somewhere fairly easy to get too:D

We are coming in on the Train from Northampton:D

Travelodge @ Marlybone - £95
Short walk from Euston Train station and tube which will take you Muswell Hill

Just checked the travel lodge, quite literally the top of my road, its a 5 min walk down to an over land stn that is 1 stop from the Ally Pally stn... but they want £46 for the friday night, and £94 [] for the saturday [or 42 for sunday if you meant sat/sun nights]

if its any use, the same line [which heading south ends up in Kings Cross I think, or possibly liverpool street, need to check], if you head north on it, goes through Welwyn Garden city, you might find something round there more cost effective as its outside the M25

Tube to Wood Green then?

Trouble with a hotel outside the M25 is you're almost back in Northampton ;)
There's a Travelodge in Enfield for that night at the same price, but the buses would be nearly an hour to Aly Paly ... it's stressfull for us townies

thats why I didn't look at those right down in the centre either, just too much trouble getting back out to Ally Pally - even Bounds Green is a fair old walk.

YOu can get really cheap at Borehamwood, 90 for two nights, but you then have to get over there, same as enfield :bonk:

I'm sure it's Euston station i arrive at from northants, so that is an option. although really didn't think about the prices being that high... i forgot if i'm honest:eek:

if only it was the friday night!.. we only need to stay the saturday night, coming up first thing sat and going home late sun night, another reason of wanting it close is because i know my girl will dump her baggage on me and check in isn't till 2..
I've emailed the Roseview hotel, like you say it may well be booked with an event on, hopefully they will contact back within 24hrs:D
Failing that, i do think a rethink and staying just outside and travelling in might have to do

it flippin well won't, not unless they have just put a new one in! There is no tubes at muswell hill or that close to Ally Pally.

Lol i'll ignore that one then shall i :D

ok, another one for you... 5 mins from New Barnet stn, 2 stops from Ally Pally

http://www.bednobreakfast.co.uk/index.php

From euston, you can take a tube over to kings cross, get on that same line straight to ally pally for the day, or at least drop daughter there, then either stay in the area until she had finished, then back on train to new barnet, if they have rooms - reverse the journey the following day.

BTW, you do know ally pally is on top of a bloody great big hill right? Its a bit a slog walking round that area

;)

I always forgot that even when I lived in London :D

You are a star Yv, although i'm not liking the sound of this bloody big hill one bit. not with cam and overnights bag! arghhhh:lol:

There are buses that run up the hill - which is actually one of London's best kept secrets; Ally Pally has a fabulous view all over London, which is why the BBC used to broadcast from there ;)

ETA - posts crossed if madam is already organising things :D

Yeah that would be good:D...
i nearly put a meet thing in the meeting section but thought it might be too last minute, plus with me not knowing where i'm going i'd be a nightmare trying to arrange it:lol:

 yeah, Londons a big place to get lost in, I have lived here 9 years and can still find myself thinking 'where the hell am I?'

See what you manage to sort out by way of accomodation and get that sorted, then drop me a PM and we will arrange it.

:lol::lol::lol:

The view is now sounding more appealing, why is a bus a secret?

:D got proper lost last year after a job we had down that way we decided to got for a ride round and we ended up at the security checkpoint for canary wharf with a range rover full of about 3/4 of a ton of DJ equipment and dreading them insisting on searching it :( thankfully they just let us turn round and b****r off ;)

My next trip down to Westminster is in November :D oh how I love edgware road :D

round ere mate, they refer to it as the edgware road :p

:D I seriously am a bit weirded though as I actually really enjoy driving into central London :D I normally have to do it once or twice a year to Westminster to visit St Thomas' for a check up and the first thing they always check is my blood pressure, and it's always spot on :cuckoo:

well you are obviously safer in all those nice slow traffic jams than whooshing around warwickshire :exit:

:( probably true though...how many people can say they closed roads in two counties though :suspect: immensely grateful to the emergency services and of course to all of TP for all the well wishes I received

send me the dates next time you are coming down... I'll use the tubes that day  [you know you are not going to live it down, but I promise to only crack a few jokes, I know how boring it gets when the same thing keeps getting repeated ;) ]

Driving in London is not like anything else in the country [and I have driven most of this fair isle], but you get used to it. Doesn't really bother me any more, yes it has a higher idiot ratio than most places, but hey ho.

:D indeed I wouldn't blame you when I'm about :D I can live with the ribbing, just glad to still be able to post....I can wholeheartedly recommend not rolling down the road it really isn't all that much fun :suspect: but I was looked after very well ;) even had a TPer on the emergency response ;)

Well finally sorted (ish) we've settled for central kings cross travel lodge, still £105 and that's without breakfast double  but at least it means I'm central and roughly know where I am plus once daughter dropped off I may visit museum and parks etc with cam :-)
