OK, so most of us know what will happen in a few weeks, but Mrs Western has decided that she needs to get fit, joining a gym is out, so I am going to start looking at ebay etc for a bike and a bench or multi gym of some sort.
If anyone here has got or had anything that was actually worth the price paid (I am talking about the cheap stuff here..) then please let me know, and any help as to what to look for or at would be appreciated.
She has already been told about this Roger Black exercise bike for £25 -

..but I have not been able to work out which model it is - any ideas ?

looks like a good deal of kit for £25.
personally the humble excercise bike is a really great way of getting cardio fit and dumping weight.
often those techie modes give you a basic calorie burn number.
when i go on it is 700cals for a decent pushing hour.

Cheaper and more enjoyable to go for a regular long walk. And with the advantage of theres nothing to clutter up the garage when the idea of getting fit wears off.

i would agree but as a good boost to the week a couple of big hits on the cardio are easy on an excercise bike and in winter walking is not so fun.
also walking isn't a big cardio and not that good for weight loss.
it does allow you to see better views though.

Besides kettlebells maybe something like these to suppmement bodyweight training

A mat for pushups and chrunches is a nice thing to have.
This is also very effective

Many thanks for all the replies - much appreciated !
I'll put them to the boss and see what she says.
Walking is a possible, but given how much rain we get in Cornwall, not likely to be a regular thing.

I wouldn't bother with any cheap CV equipment - either get the good stuff or go running for CV.

For strength, well a pull up bar is awesome but most people think pull ups are unachievable and so give up - look out for one of the many knock off TRX rigs. £15 to £20 should cover it though mine cost a bit more than that with DVDs. Instead of weights, go for resistance bands - the Bodylastic ones are good. Anybody who tells you this isn't a proper workout hasn't tried them :)

And spend the money you save on a nice grippy mat and foam roller. Plenty of awesome yoga videos on YT.

True but I would suggest a few lessons with a decent teacher first to make sure you're not doing anything wrong enough to do yourself damage. Some of the videos on YT show some VERY deep poses that could easily damage someone inexperienced who tried to achieve the shape demonstrated without the warm-up and preparatory moves necessary. A decent studio might also have a range of mats for you to try - they're not all the same and some suit some people while others suit others. Mrs Nod has 5 different mats available and has trial examples of them all. Prices vary from £18 up to £100 (and yes, you can tell the difference!)
