Hi all, I’m visiting my mother in Brighton and didn’t think of packing a charger when I came down here.

One of the batteries is dead, so I was hoping for some advice on alternative charging methods; I’ve got a Nikon D5 and a D6, and charging them with USB-C, Thunderbolt and micro-USB have not worked so far.

Much gratitude in advance!

I am not a Nikon owner but I have looked at the D5 & D6 manuals and cannot find any mention of charging the batteries in camera using the USB type connection. There is only mention of using the supplied charger and removing the batteries to do so.

All being well some Nikon users will chime in and confirm or correct my post. @sk66 do I recall you have experience of various Nikon bodies???

PS initially I thought I had found the online manual where USB charging was shown......but then noticed it was for the Z series bodies.

Apart from the Z series I think this is only possible with an external charger.

If you're there for a while, and really are in a bind, I'd suggest a 3rd party battery from Amazon that comes with a charger.

I’ve never had any success with 3rd party chargers for the en el18 batteries, however MPB have a mh26 (no need for the 26a imo) for £79 the last time I looked. If you’re desperate that’s your best bet, ironically, MPB are based in Brighton

I've never owned a Nikon, but early 3rd party chargers wouldn't charge my Canon batteries, however, the newer ones do, including the 3 pack charger I now use, meaning I never have to use the big and heavy Canon charger.

And even if the 3rd party charger won't charge the Nikon battery, the OP can use the 3rd party battery
