After hearing a glowing review on the radio i've been catching up on "The Returned" on 4od.
Set in a small French village in the alps, various people start returning from the dead for no apparent (yet) reason just as they were the day they died.
Half way through the third episode and totally hooked!
French with subtitles but don't let it put you off as it's expertly and brilliantly filmed, great acting, beautiful cinematography and a wonderful soundtrack by Mogwai too!
 
It's excellent so far IMO. I worry about where it's ultimately going, because supernatural stuff frequently struggles with reaching a conclusion, but enjoying the journey very much.
 
Really enjoying this program.....Not worked out yet what's gonna happen. Looks like you will have to watch it right to the end. I record it now and whizz through all the ads they show. Far to many. And whats with the water/reservoir/lake..spooky:shrug:
 
The first three were on YouTube in French only. Watched them then. Hooked instantly. Much easier to fathom with subtitles.

The boy victor is a right scary little wotsit!

Definitely got that Twin Peaks vibe about it, minus the freaky backwards talking midget.
 
I've watched every episode so far, I'm liking it but have no clue where it's going. At least we now have an idea who the little guy Victor is though.

Over 25 years since I studied French, no way I could follow it without subtitles! Although I still pick up more than when watching an Italian program and I'm studying Italian at the moment.

Ages ago for me too but I got the general idea. Did miss some of the subtle details though. Its amazing how much you do understand without realising it.
 
Enjoying this. One of the best programs on tv at the moment.

4OD has minimal adverts, maybe 1 or 2 every other AA's break. The rest of the time it just goes straight back to the program.
 
If it goes onto netflix, as other 40d content has, then that will be completely ad free.
 
Another addict here. What I like best is, you think you have worked out what might happen next, then it completely throws you.

And I agree about Victor, he's very spooky, what a great bit of casting!

It's been bugging me for ages and I've finally worked out what the constantly repeated piano riff is from.... Pink Floyd, The Wall, Goodbye Blue Sky! :D

I can sleep now.
 
So, the last episode is next week. Wonder how it will all end? It's been a fascinating series so far, hope it doesn't get really stupid.
 
I haven't watched this week's yet but I'm still completely baffled....I also hope it doesn't have a stupid ending.
 
Cheers for the reminder on this. I watched the first 2 episodes before going on hol's, meant to catch up when I got back but completely forgot. Must get back to it.

Just checked 40D, it's up to ep-7, better get watching!
 
I hope they're going to do another series, it's absolutely gripping stuff...too many endings to deal with in a 50 minute episode, so many unresolved issues - where did Serge go? what is it with the girl who was stabbed in the first episde? what is it with Lena and Camille, where does Pierre fit in with all of this? Julie, Adele - they dead too? Are they all dead????? Sunday can't come soon enough.
 
I was looking at a tv review site for news on the program and only just found out Lena and Camille are supposed to be twins.:eek:
 
They're definitely twins. Will be interesting if Lena turns out to be Camille....I wondered that as well as there were hints that Camille wanted this b/f that was supposed to be Lena's. I thought she confessed to fooling around with him rather than having an identity swap.

Victor is definitely weird with all that pointing!
 
Hmm you've got me wondering if the identity swap is a possibility. Lena had the weird rotting/scar thing that the other Returned have.... could be!!!!
 
It feels like it is going to have a dodgy ending or a lot of unresolved issues maybe for a season 2. Also seems to have a lot of religious iconography which makes it weirder. Good show though and well acted.
 
I am hooked on this. Although i am getting irked by the way that the interior of everybodies houses seems to be straight out of a wallpaper magazine photoshoot circa 1998.

Who were that bunch of people standing around the fire... How will victor get his revenge? Did the twins swap places before the crash. Can serge actually close his mouth?
 
I had an idea I knew what the ending would be but if they're making another series I must be wrong.
 
Watched the last episode last night. Girlfriend turns to me and says " what was that all about? It left more questions than answers!"

Then the announcer said that Series Two will be on next year. Phew!!!

Great series, quality tv. Well done C4 !
