Hi

We have been with SKY for many years but now is the time to go when other providers have great offers for new customers.

Their offers don't differ much in price from each others but I'm looking for the best quality service.

Is there any provider that you would avoid or definitely recommend?
Or any advice when choosing a new provider.

Thanks
Fabien

I moved from Sky to BT. No problems at all with the service. Obviously the BT 4K box is not as advanced as Sky Q, nor are there as many channels, but that doesn’t bother me.

Sky have the best in terms of quality and number of channels. Not on Q but supposed to be good. BT for broadband who have been fine.

I cancelled sky but then offered me sports and movies, he and box sets plus multi room and the other channels for £52.50 for 12 months but 30 day cancellation pertso stayed with them. By wouldn’t have been any cheaper plus less channels.

Depends how much tv u watch and what channels.

I moved from Virgin because they became extremely unreliable and had the cheek to keep increasing their prices so I switched to BT. Not as many channels but I hardly watch them anyway because I hate adverts so I got the 4k Netflix subscription and it's still cheaper than Virgin.

Only thing to note is that you need a regular aerial with coax for the initial setup.

We don't need all the TV channels, don't need sport or movie channels; just need the kids channels, HD channels and good internet connection.

BT has the usual kids stuff, although Netflix opened up a whole new world of kids material. We've got separate child friendly logins for both children.

I’d go down the route of going for an Internet only package then contracting Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. I will be cancelling my BT TV at the end of the contract and getting Eurosport Player (£20/year).

I went from Sky to Virgin as I get staff discount. I think Sky, Virgin and BT are all the same. I only changed because of the discount I got.
If you do want to got to Virgin I can get you friends and family discount

The problem with Sky is that it feathers Murdoch's nest which I refuse to do.

Recently switched from Virgin fibre to BT Infinity and am happy with the move, we did have a faulty Homehub V6 modem (which apparently is common) but it was replaced and now all good and I'm not paying for TV which I also like (and got free BT sports which means I've been able to watch the Ashes, more's the pity...).

Have you considered a Freesat box?

We got BT infinity last year, decent, stable & had no probs.

Before you cancel, it always worth calling the sales team to see what they’re prepared to offer. Our Virgin contract came up for renewal recently and we got over £10 a month off the bill after a little bit of haggling.

Give Sky a call, you might be surprised on the deal they do if you tell them you want to cancel off the bat.
Don't say you are thinking of leaving, say you are leaving and retentiona may surprise you.

Sky has already called me to try to keep me. I told them what I wanted included and what I wanted to pay for it which is the price they advertise online. But their offer was £20 more than their online price.

She said that she couldn't go lower because that's the best price her department can offer although new customers get better deals, I told her goodbye .

I have just called BT but they said that they wouldn't be able to provide their TV package because the broadband in my area is not fast enough. I live in Birmingham????

BT are a complete mystery sometimes. We were considering dumping Virgin a while back and going with just Freeview for the tv and BT Infinity for broadband. I searched three different BT sites to see if they could provide Infinity to our house and they all came back with either no or sometime in the future, possibly, maybe. This is despite there being a big green box about 50 yards from our house with a sticker on it saying “BT Infinity is here!”

I used to work for them but I don’t recommend them to anyone, I think that should tell you enough.

I’ve got at least 2 BT cabinets within 50 yards and all the others around me have BT infinity except the one I’m connected to and they’ve been saying it will be connected soon for at least 2 years! Particularly frustrating since Open Reach are often seen laying cable around the area and there were about 5 vans the other day at the new housing up the road from me

I have a very good Virgin Media connection so it is not stopping me doing anything but I hate them both and like to switch back and forth to get the new offers ;)

Sometimes one cabinet in an area could be fibre enabled and another not, it does happen.

There also could be a capacity issue at the cabinet as they only have a specific number of fibre ports and once they are all used, you may not be able to get it.

When Openreach run fibre cables to.a cabinet, they often run it to all cabinets near it but sometimes it's not an easy job depending on the underground ducting.

According to Virgin something like this happened in my area and they completely oversubscribed. Our 200Mb broadband dropped to literally slower than dialup, with the occasional burst of speed for half an hour.

Completely unworkable and after putting up with it for over six months I was then told it was going to be like that for another nine months. Reason for such long delays was apparently due to permits etc to dig up the roads. Then they put the monthly prices up lol. So I left and will probably never go back because it felt like nothing more than greed to sign up so many new customers when the infrastructure couldn't cope.

Very cheekily hyjacking this - my sky is up for renewal - was considering Vodafone fiber, but maybe you can help? :P

If you don't watch much TV, then why do you need the service?

We use Vodafone for broadband and phone line. For TV we just use freeview and catch up services and Netflix. I think we might also have prime, but to be honest we rarely have time to sit and watch tv so we have more than enough.

Mainly for the kids channels

Fair enough.
Not sure what you watch, but we seem to be well covered with CBBC, cbeebies, whatever else is on standard channels, plenty of kids stuff on netflix and come to think of it we have a subscription to disney life so have all the disney films and stuff too.

Never had sky myself so don't know what I am missing, is there specific channels there that you can't get elsewhere?
