Changing image order in LR (confused/frustrated:)

Hi all,

OK , here is my questions:)
I have downloaded images from last wedding only to find LR sorted them rather not the way I wanted. I know it is my fault as I forgot to rename the in-camera file naming on one of the bodies. All files (converted to dng ) are timestamped.
Can anyone give me a clue how to sort all those images according to time taken without resorting to quite brain-numbing manual sorting?

All help much appreciated.

Hi Tom,

In my version of LR (5) there's a 'Sort' dropdown at the bottom of the Library grid. One of the choices is Capture Time, which sounds like what you want.

Hi Dave

Thanks for your help. This is what I have done ( and always do) but this time it just doesn't work. It must be something to do with a different file name on one of the bodies.

Yeap, this is the route I am going down now but it is only half sorting the problem (pun intended:) It allows me to go through the pictures sorted in time-order but only per body. Ideally I would like to have them all sorted from all four bodies.

I wonder if you've done something strange to the time settings with the move to BST. Changed some but not all bodies maybe?, the file name shouldn't make a difference to the sort by capture time option

Thanks Hugh, you know what?! I bet you this is it!!!! Do you know of any way I can sort it out in LR?

Why don't you try batch renaming the wrongly named images and see if that helps?

You can move the time stamp for a group of photos by selecting and editing the metadata. Just select each camera's photos and then move the time from just those files. Its fiddly but relatively easy as long as nothing distracts you. not that I've ever done it you understand

He he , thanks Hugh.:) This sounds like a perfect recipe for a disaster knowing me:)

Doesn't that set the same time for all images? I've never tried it but my mate did something similar and got all the pics with exactly the same time, not just advanced an hour or whatever

I do love Lightroom for its ability to sort, view etc. I just wish mine would stick to sorting by capture time :)

you can chose to role on by a set amount. i.e. add 1 hour (or another time period) rather then a set time
