I'm currently with SSE using their smart meters.
For the last week the monitor tracker has not being displaying any info about my gas usage.
The phone number on their last letter was the incorrect one and I only found this out after waiting on the phone for 45 minutes.
When they transfered me after 30 minutes on hold the call got cut off so another 40 minutes on hold.
I have to wait for 5 working days while their techies look into it so I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
My little research (ok lack of interest) in smart meters leads me to believe there are SMETS1 and SMETS2 and I think mine are SMETS2.
My question is if anyone has changed suppliers and been able to carry on using the smart meters and was the transfer a smooth proccess?
Have you needed to contact their customer services and did you have to spend a long time on hold?
I know a few people that have been down this road and their feedback wasn't very good.

I had a smart meter fitted by ScottishPower which they told me on the day of fitting was a version 1 which would be no good if I changed supplier. When I did change to OctopusEnergy the display inside the house still worked but I had to submit monthly reading. After about a year they started to take their own readings so they must have tapped into the meter. I thought it was meant to be easy to switch with a SMETS 2 meter.

I use Money saving expert website to find the best deal and then use thier swap process to change supplier, pretty much doing so every 12-18months depending on how long each fixed price deal lasts. every one has been completed well with in the 6weeks they say it takes. I couldnt careless about smart meters and dont have one. My current supply emails monthly and it takes me all of 2 minutes to read the meter and submit the details

Looking online they say

The easiest way to tell is to look at your electricity meter. If the serial number starts with 19P, this indicates it's a SMETS1 meter. If it starts with 19M, then this means it’s SMETS2.

What is the serial number on your meter?

I think my mate also moved to SSE and has had a similar issue. Will check and confirm.
