The sign of things to come amongst online sellers?

I can understand why they are doing it - I've ordered small items from them for around a couple of pounds and less that couldn't be cost effective to process and deliver.

We’re writing to you about our Free Super Saver Delivery service.

We wanted to let you know that Amazon.co.uk has introduced a £10 minimum spend to qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery in a number of product categories, effective 23 July 2013.

Orders that include books, DVDs, Blu-rays, music, video games and software products continue to qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery with no minimum spend threshold. So whether it’s a new release CD for £7 or a bestselling book for £5, you’ll continue to receive Free Super Saver Delivery on millions of items regardless of the amount you spend. In fact, you will continue to enjoy Free Super Saver Delivery on all orders that include these types of items, for example an order that includes a book for £3.49 and an HDMI cable for £4.49. For all other orders, a minimum total spend of £10 is now required to qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery.

Whilst the change will affect only a very small proportion of orders, it will allow us to offer you a significantly expanded selection of lower priced products.

As I recall, Amazon used, at one time, to offer Free Super Saver on orders over £15. They then went to FSS on all orders, so this is a modest backtrack in effect.

Anthony.

Yes - they changed when retailers like HMV, Zavvi, Play etc were all doing free delivery.

It's good to see that books, music, DVDs etc still get free delivery at any price point

Guess it's because of rising postage costs. Can't be any profit in posting out an item that only costs a couple of quid for free. At least CD's and DVD's are still free though.

For many sub £10 items it might prove cheaper to buy the same on EBay, or find a cheap CD or book on Amazon for less than the new postage price to bundle for the free delivery. There are often 79p CDs to buy which will do the trick.

Prime is still the way to go for regular users though.

The most annoying thing is that on some items you can't see how much the delivery cost with be until you get to checkout. Bit like Ryan-f*****g-Air :bang:

A lot of items show up as "add-on" items only and don't even give you the option of paying for postage. I'd happily pay a small postage fee rather than have to also order another more expensive item as well.
