I took this photo in Bosnia some years ago whilst I was working with UN. At the time I was sitting having a cup of coffee when this picture presented itself to me. I took a quick snap with my first ever digital camera - Kodak DC215. (I think it was all of 1 meg pix!)

I have always like this shot. It summed up the sense of loss to me at the time in terms of missing generations.

Can anybody have a go at tidying it up. I guess it needs cropping and some work doing on the levels. I have barely got to grips with my D50 so Elements4 is still in the box at the moment!!

Cheers,

BobR

very quick play with it bob, looks a bit blocky, but it was only a small file to begin with, you could do better with the bigger one.

Cheers,

I laugh when I think back to how advanced I thought my camera was back then - thanks for having a play though, at least I can see the colours!

well for what its worth...

i enlarged it first befor i made any adjustments, then sorted out the level.
I then duplicated the layer, softened it, and removed the faces and points of interest from the softened layer so as the sharper bits showed though. I then used teh stamp tool set to darken to try and remove the halos
I think i over softened it though:shrug:

Cheers,

Its not as blocky as the other one. I wish I had had todays technology back then... I would have filled a hard drive and a half with shots.

Thanks for taking the time and effort.

Bob had a go. Lovely picture, Tricky to dial it back in due to the exposure, shadows and light but here you go.

Thanks very much for that. Totally different perspective on it.

created a duplicate layer and adjusted levels and applied a little curves adjustment on the duplicate to brighten the shadows

added a layer mask to the new layer and applied a gradient to the mask to hide the top of the image and allow the original to show through.
