Hi, I went into currys - southend looking for a CFcard for my 5D.
I was told that currys is not stocking these because these cards were old stuff and that manufacturers aren't making these as much anymore because they are being replaced with SD cards.
I was pretty surprised by thier claims especially that they had quite a few on thier website.
Was this idiot chatting from his behind?

In the end went to digital depot stevenage

You'll probably find that most of the cameras that Currys sell (if not all of them) are SD based bodies.

CF does now tend to be the preserve of older cameras across the entire range - but also still very much high end pro and semi pro cameras. For example the 1Dx has two CF slots, and the D4 and D800 has one backed off to a smaller card (XQD and SD).

The cards they sell are predominately there as add-on sales when someone comes in to buy a body and so there is no point in selling CF cards if they don't sell bodies to take them. You'll also find they are pretty expensive to compensate for the lack of any profit in most DSLR bodies. Unless they are specialists (for example a friend of mine was hired by PC World because he was also a pro-photographer), they'll know what is sold in the shop and little else.

*Most* experienced photographers would buy their cards from an online retailer where you'll find a massive selection of CF cards from a wide range of manufacturers, and at vastly better prices than the electrical bricks and mortar stores, and places like Jessops & Boots.

To be honest it's a pretty accurate statement ,
For example all Canon dSLR used to be CF but now the lower models in the range at SD

I would not buy from Currys - there's plenty of online sources for CF cards and they're cheaper
