Edit My Images
Yes
Hi hope somone can help me out.
I spent the day on saturday out with my wife and daughter and took 204 pics, when i loaded them onto my laptop there was 204 pics so i deleted my cf card contents and ejected my camera.
But when i went back to the folder there wad only 139 pics in there!.
Ive tried 2different programs downloaded from the net to retrieve the pics from my card but not had any joy! .
So do you know of a free download that actually works so i can get my pics back?
thanks in advance kev

I use Lexar's image pro 4 - They do do a free download of it www.lexar.com/products/lexar-image-rescue-4-software You could give that a try & see if it recovers the lost images...

:plusone:
Another vote for this. Saved the day from my one and only corrupt CF card at the end of a night shoot along The Thames. Ironically, the only time I had ever re-formatted the card before shooting! Image Rescue got back all the images I had taken that evening and a lot more old images previously on the card.

The important thing once you realise is not to do anything else with the card until you have run the recovery software.

Which version did you download - was the 3 or the latest pro4

IIRC 3 was the free version...

That's 'Try Before You buy' software in a nutshell.

You've tried it, you know it works, how much are your pictures worth to you?

For some real free ones, have a look at The Free Information Society. Scroll down and youll see some free undelete utilities.

Piriform's Recuva is free and it works. No serials or hidden fees ;)

I could understand if the software was a £100 but its around £20 surely the pictures are worth more than that to you. Why both messing about loading lots of other free software that may or may not do the job, may even risk losing them all together when you have a piece of software that has proved it works??

Why pay when there's free software with a proven track record?

thanks , right ivr downloaded this and it worked grat , got all my pics back in a file .
but whenever i rotate a pic it disapears !
searched and cant find the ones ive rotated .
help me please this is driving me nuts .
cheers kev

OK, gonna need a bit more info.

Just to confirm that you have used this and recovered all of your pics and saved then to you PC?

How are you then rotating them?

all pics were recovered ,camera unplugged an all pics still there then i started to rotate them after a few mins i realised that they were disapearing after rotation (right click rotate clockwise ).
really baffling me any help would be aprieciated ,
cheers kev

Hmm, just tried the same here and no issues.
Can you try the following (I'm doing his on Windows 7 and the assumption is you just let image rescue do it's stuff into the default folder)

In your pictures library there should be an Image Rescue folder
Within there there will be another folder with just numbers - date and time of the last pic recovered I think. Right click that folder and select properties. That will show you how many files are in there.

Now, open the folder, it should be full of your recovered pictures all named Receovered<date><number> select any picture and right click, copy. Then right click paste. You should now have an additional picture with copy added to the end of the name. Now right click the copy and rotate like you did before. Presumable it then vanishes?

Now, back to the Image Rescue folder, right click, properties. Is the number of files the same as it was before or has it gone up by one?

hi mate , failed at the first hurdle , ive found the image rescue folder with 3 folders in but all three folders are empty !.
im going to run the rescue program again soon and try again,
cheers kev

OK, there should be an option in image resure to tell it where to write the recovered files. I fire up my copy tonight and have a look.

Right, just had a play.

  1. Start image rescue
  2. On the main screen select card to search & click continue
  3. Selet file types to look for, click continue. If you select Nikon as a brand it will automatically select the correct files
  4. Click start to search the card
  5. Click continue once search has finished. A 4GB card took about 20 mins to search
  6. You will then see thumbnails of all pics found
  7. Click Keep All
  8. Click continue
  9. You now get the option to change where files are saved - leave it as default
  10. Click Save
  11. Files now get saved to chosen location
  12. Once this is complete, you will get a pop up by the "Open" button saying click to view recovered images
  13. Click Open
  14. An explorer window will open showing the recovered files

Back at the image rescue window you have the option of burning recovered files to CD/DVD if you want.

That should be it :)

I did all that apart from the burn to DVD using a CF card from my D70. After I clicked open on step 13 I was able to rotate the images in the explorer window without any problems.

hi all pics recovered , but still disapear when i rotate them !
when i open my picture library i get the image rescue folder ,when i right click and click on properties there are 288 files ,
when i open this folder then open recovered folder i see my images , but when i rotate any of them they disapear and the file count at the bottom goes down by -1.
but if i go back to the recovered folder it still show 288 files in the folder .
i can drop n drag the pics into another folder but they still disapear when rotated ..
i know this seems really strange but i just cant seem to sort it .

Right, found a few hits on Google of other people reporting the same so at least you are not alone :)

You might like to try opening in Photoshop or similar and rotating in there rather than letting Windows do it.
