I'm fortunate enough to get to do a wee bit of travel within the UK as part of my job and usually stay overnight the day before meetings. I'm in Manchester on Thursday night this week and I'm open to any suggestions for evening cityscape? Last time I was there I walked (along the canal mostly) to Salford Quays, getting the tram back. Some nice compositions around the quays but a wee bit too far out if I decide to take my DSLR and tripod this time (last time around Sony RX100 and no tripod...).

All suggestions welcome!

Surprised not to have had any feedback/suggestions. Back home now and as it turned out my back was knackered so I never even left the hotel - but I'll be back agin so I'm still open to any suggestions!

Sorry didn't see your request.. I'm new round here :)

I live in Manchester.. evening cityscape stuff is a little hard to come by.. unless rooftopping is your thing.. alternatively a few of the city car parks offer good positions. There's a multi story at Shudehill Interchange that offers a good position for long exposure night shots.. https://goo.gl/maps/TNmck -

Now that the big wheel has been dismantled there's very few public places to get decent cityscape images.. I'd love to see a public viewing platform built somewhere in Manchester..

I did manage a rooftop trip on the CIS building.. as usual, the Mancunian weather wasn't great.. it was pretty windy up there..

Thanks Steve. I'll be back again soon enough and I'll check out that multi-storey spot.

You might get moved on at the multi-storey. But it's worth a shot. Supposedly you're allowed up there to shoot, you just need to get in touch with them before you do do (a day or two before) to tell them you'll be there.

Salford Quays, Media City and Spinningfields all have some decent architecture, only problem is they're on private land so security folks get twitchy when someone with a camera turns up.

Good to know thanks - although next time I'm there I'll likely just bring my wee Sony RX100 and no tripod and do a 'recce'.

I went to Salford Quays last time and I regularly go to Spinningfields as there's a nice Thai restaurant there!

Australasia? Heard good things. Next time try Try Thai, in China town. One of my favourite Thai restaurants in Manchester.

Oh we're at risk of going off topic now but it's okay since it's about food!

The one I was referring to was Thaikun. But I'm definitely going to try those other two now!

Salford Quays and Media City are good for photographers, just occassional hassle from Tripod Police.

Around the Armani Building in Deansgate can be good, and Trinity Bridge is a short walk from there. The John Rylands Library interior is worth a visit too (if its open when you are there)

These are all of parts of the Armani Building

But Salford Quays/Media City has got to be favourite in Manchester
