Hiya all, I have a home studio (My Kitchen) i'm trying to get maximum width possible. I currently have a 2.3m wide seamless roll in there but i'm losing space because my lights are on the floor. What I want to do is hang 2 from the celing to light the backdrop.

  1. Would this work ok?
  2. What should i use to hang a Smartflash 200 from the ceiling?

Any pointers would be great :)

Manfrotto also do an arm and clamp setup which is far more versatile than the fixed ceiling fitting. With the arm and clamp you can position the lamp far better. I have two of these which I can attach to the beams in my studio. They are ok for snoots etc but when you want to use a big softbox then a stand is best.

Yeah - rummage around on that link and they do a bunch of stuff surprisingly similar to the Manfrotto kit ;)

However, a full skytracks system is VERY heavy in its own right before you add flash. Not sure I'd trust it to a domestic ceiling.

Apart from anything else, like weight, cost and the fact that your living room would never be a living room again - a skytrack system needs about 14' of ceiling height.

To be honest, your best solution here is a lighting stand, full stop. Any fixed bracket will totally lack versatility.

if you'd just said No i'd have sent a quick note but seeing as you're being an arse about it, you have done seminars for Viewfinder, so its a logical extention, no?

you didnt have to be defensive about it though, a simple yes or no would have sufficed, a perfectly legitimate question for me to ask given the facts to hand
