A long story short : So I want to get back to fitness after snapping a knee clean in half back in 2019 while surfing so now recovered (fingers crossed) I ordered two 28kg kettlebells to help out a bit. They did not arrive so I telephoned the company selling them and they said they had no sense from the courier and will investigate. Okay so one 28kg kettlebell was badly damaged and one was okay I was told so I said well have the courier deliver the okay one and replace the badly damaged one in due course, simple . . . I telephoned five times and sent four e-mails and nothing for two weeks (they claimed the order was delivered, but that was just the one okay kettlebell not the pair) - So I took a screen shot of my cctv footage showing the delivery of just the one kettlebell and Abracadabra, Izzy Whizzy Let's Get Busy, Beware The Ides Of March and all that, as if by magic a kettlebell has just been sent out to the courier ! The cctv system I have might have cost £200ish but it really has proven its worth from catching a criminal to seeing which cat has left me a turd on the lawn to seeing three Robins together under my tree and numerous disputed deliveries resolved as soon as I prove I have cctv footage available. I'd rather just not a cctv system with people doing their job properly but such is life !

Good stuff :D

I probably watch our cameras more than the TV :D We have hedgehogs visit reguarly and as soon as I see them I go and put some food out. I don't put food out just on the off chance they'll come as we also get visits from the neighborhood cats and they're greedy and will just eat it all. We've also had a fox visit a couple of times too.

Well I have so far seen eight cats, three foxes, two hedgehogs, a field mouse (gert big huge ears it had), all manner of birds (the feathered variety lol), lots of what appear to huuuuuge moths and insects, spiders across the lenses and of course deliveries from various couriers as mentioned above. And yes, I too spend a lot of time watching the monitor to see what is going on outside - day or night if I see a cat on the lawn I'm off in my wellies and boxer shorts running down the garden scaring the furry shi*bag off - I hope no one has a cctv camera on ME dong this  :$ lol

I had CCTV covering the road outside my studio, for the obvious security reasons.

A passing car once knocked the wing mirror off my car
A Lorry wrote off one car
Another lorry wrote off another car
A delivery van doing a 3-point turn backed into one of my cars.

In every case, the drivers flatly denied causing the damage but the CCTV proved otherwise and either the employers or insurance company paid out generously.

It was almost normal for the police to call, to look at my CCTV, a few times it proved that someone was either dealing drugs etc or completely innocent, I had no idea how active the police were until I had the CCTV installed

Mrs WW is in Thailand for 6 months and I know she's looking at our CCTV as she's sent me screen shots of me outside the house :D

Yup. The police have visited for our footage too.

Making me think I should start paying for the Ring again, as I let the sub lapse!

I think the cctv cameras give me a lot of piece of mind and of course enjoyment from watching the wildlife. One thing to think about is that one issue captured showing a problem delivery, anti social event or accident would probably mean that these gizmos earn their keep.

We have a couple of hedgehogs visiting so I made a hedgehog feeding station from a clear Perspex box with a 140?mm bend as an entrance to strop cats getting the cat food. Lots of plans on YouTube etc or you can buy ready made wooden feeders. Our hedgehogs run late sometimes so we might be In bed before they turn up

I know nothing about cctv, and know I could Google but what sort of money do you pay for a basic cctv system, say 2 or 3 cameras installed and set up (or is that easy)

There are plenty on amazon . . . I have the 8 camera ANNKE system (B013SKFHV0 takes you to the page with a selection of systems) - it really is just plug it all together and your off (you need a HDMI monitor though - I have a 27inch 4k monitor connected to the HDMI socket on the cctv recorder unit ) . . . NOTE that cctv is security so the footage is tamper proof. You can download clips to a memory card though and use that to make a movie or something. A bit clunky but easily doable.

Have a look on Amazon for Reolink. Their camera aren’t that expensive, they have a doorbell and you don’t need a subscription for it to work.

I have a number of Reolink cameras, a doorbell and one of their NVRs and have been very happy with them. I can monitor everything in my phone, setup movement alerts and can talk over most of the cameras, set off a siren or turn on their spot lights.

There is also a desktop app for viewing the camera feeds so no need for a separate monitor if you have a PC

ive 6 reolink cameras on dotted around my lake and 1 on the back of the house, they work fairly well some of thae audio is very noisy with interference others cameras are amazing and i can hear people talking from about 400 yards away at night when its quiet, video during the day is good at night time its not bad but i find its worse if i turn on the infra red feature so i have solar powered lights dotted around too, but they are a bit fragile and several have stopped working with one issue or another, the customer service is crap, id not reccomend them on the strength of that alone, give you nothing but the run around, the ones on the lake use sim cards, i was with vodaphone but they have recently told me that they are discontinuing they vsim card so il be migrating to gifgaf cards in august

I know that some of their cameras aren’t that great, especially the cheaper plastic ones. I have 3 of the track mix cameras and they are metal bodies, quite heavy and very solid. Image quality is great during the day and in IR.

I’ve not had to deal with their customer service so can’t comment on that. I bought my cameras on Amazon so would deal with them if there was an issue.

Brilliant, thank you all for your replies, very helpful! I'll have a good look when I get a better signal.
