Was not sure about this one; wrecked my brain. Something I am quite interested in but have not tried before is light writing; so here is my first attempt, but took a couple of hours to get to this stage :( Thought it was a bit sin-ister ?

Hats off to the guys who do some fantastic stuff with light. Not easy. I used candles for this. I paused at the bottom to try and get the effect of the flame shooting up from the candle.

I found setting the ISO to 100 and the aperture as high as it would go gave me the darkest I could get in my kitchen :)

That's is a great idea. I wouldn;t have been able to keep the candle steady enough I think!

Not tried anything like this myself, but was wondering could you have stacked multiple images so that you had four candles at the base of each letter that would have been sharply in focus and you could have exaggerated the flame of over the trail?
 
Not a bad idea !, when my wife lets me back in the kitchen I will try that.

Nice photo and a nice idea, my smoke alarm would have been going crazy if I tried doing that in the house. I think a better composition would improve it :)

Thanks, Yes definitely should of composed it better. Tricky getting the writing in the cameras field of view.

But with a quick bit of editing on PS, getting nearer but its late and I am off to bed..

Was not sure if we could edit photo's or not. Happy with my original post to stand, the comments help greatly for beginners.

Great Idea this 52, felt I have learnt stuff already!

I would never have been able to do this without blowing the candle or dripping hot wax all over myself, so props to you. The edit looks much better in terms of composition, and it definitely shows the "sin-ister" side of sin, very original.

You pic has vanished ( over size I believe) but I saw it earlier...good start to your project....never tried light writing so can't offer any useful crit...but I did like the take on the theme & the image itself :thumbs:
 
Hi, there, light writing, not easy as I've found out. Looks like a flame, which I like.

Looks slightly OOF to me and I'd like to see a closer crop.

Thanks for the comments; no burns thankfully :) Remember to tip the hot liquid wax out if your using church candles like I was..

Will need a lot of work to perfect, and time which is mainly at night once the kids are in bed. I shall look into getting the image focused better..

What a great idea using a naked flame to provide the light source. It's added a real degree of "spookiness" to the image. An inventive start for sure!
