We're considering changing the car for an SUV. We were considering a 'mild-hybrid',too. It doesn't need plugging in.

I had a Prius that was hybrid and really liked it. My wife had it provided to her by her employer so I bought it from them when they gave my wife a new one. I eventually sold it because, one night, in the early hours, the cat converter was stolen. The car was on the drive. It would have cost me £1350 had I gone to Toyota but I managed to get it done with so-called 'after market' parts. New, but not made by Toyota. It cost £700 fitted. I had to put the car into our garage which meant making room by taking down low shelving..a pain ..literally, getting in and out of it .Garages aren't what they used to be re size. The thieves would just wait until I got a new cat converter and steal it again which is what happened to a chap in London that I read about. He collected his Prius at 2.00pm from the garage and the thieves returned that very night and stole it. He had no off-road parking .The thieves get about £400-500 for them It's big business. They sell them abroad, too. They will hold up traffic in a street ,too whilst they do it.Takes just a few minutes , if that and anyone brave, or foolish, enough to confront them will be met with threats of violence .I saw CCTV of one man trying to stop them and he was threatened with an iron bar by one of the gang who was the look-out.

So.. My understanding was that the manufacturers of the vehicles most at risk, the Prius, the Honda Jazz, the Lexus for example, have since taken steps to make the cat converter inaccessible. Goodness knows how much one for a Lexus would cost to renew. Toyota has incorporated a catlock and improved serial number etching to assist tracking.... after the theft. Honda has put a tray under the chassis and improved security on certain models..eg Lexus. The thieves use a jack and a small hand-held, powered metal cutters. Youtube video below.

I googled it to see how things are. I won't be buying a hybrid nor a mild hybrid.

look at an EV, no CAT :)

Not a hope..Lol

We don't want to get stranded. Our neighbours..two of them, have Teslas and when chatting to them my wife has said she doesn't want an EV because of the charging problems and there are charging problems. Also, she doesn't like the ugly charge..all that cable.. on the front of our neighbour's houses.

I think Tesla infrastructure is very good, though. When we stopped at service stations on our trip to the east coast recently, there was often ,always, a row of Tesla chargers. Most of the Teslas were white..a few dark blue ones, too. I've just done a check and Tesla offer five colours in the I wonder why so many are white ? I don't really like that colour. Varieties of silver look good.

White is the free colour.

No charging problems for me in 2 years. Just plug in and go! My cable is at the side of the house. Pretty unobtrusive (its the Tesla one) and looks quite nice IMO although some can look ugly. Looks a lot better than the 4 bins I have!

Oh..Ok. I didn't know that re white being free. Makes sense.

Down the side of the house seems a good position to me. My neighbours have theirs right next to the front door. One neighbour's charging point does look 'nicer' than the other. Maybe the 'nice' one was more expensive. The not-so-nice one looks pretty utilitarian to me.

The infrastructure for EVs is nowhere near where it needs to be. I would consider an EV when this happens.... but probably not in my lifetime. Lol!

Its not if everyone jumped on it now, but if you bought an EV today its fine - pretty much always spaces at my local Tesco and always at Waitrose. Only once could I not get a Tesla charger, - as long as you can charge at home its unlikely to be an issue

So, if we see a white handle on a pertrol pump, the rest of us (the vast majority of drivers) can fill our tanks without paying?

We..cambsno and I, were talking about the colour of Teslas.

Btw. What's a 'pertrol' pump ? :D

An attractive piece of service station forecourt furniture.

White is (in theory!) the coolest colour in summer. Still hot as Hades after a couple of hours parked in the Sun though!!! First time I've remembered that this car has seat coolers but they take a couple of miles to feel a real difference.
