Castleford - any nearby good locations?

Just on the off-chance .... any ideas?

I have to work in Castleford tomorrow and staying overnight. Any recommendations for an interesting place to stay with photo opportunities?

Not much into cities - prefer Rivers, Canals and Landscapes (seascapes too but I know this is out :) ).
 
Ah well, just an idea!
 
Well the river runs right through.
Pontefract Castle is interesting, but there's not a lot of interest close by.

You could go skiing though, or the pictures, or the indoor climbing wall etc at XScape
 
there is a curved bridge in Castleford might be good for some night photos, there is Fairburn Ings an RSPB reserve
 
Thanks guys.... much appreciated. Was lacking the buzz last night to find anywhere - I'm getting to dislike working away.

Now to find the enthusiasm to pack camera kit when it's pouring with rain down here. It IS Spring, right?
 
Haven't been there for a few years, but they are impressive, especially watching them in use.

Looks like you got lucky not to have dozens of folk cluttering your images :cool:

The café at the top used to do really good ice-cream too.

Guess I was lucky in many ways. There was loads of rain around in the afternoon and I was there in the evening. Nobody else was taking chances on the many (heavy) clouds.
