OldG - I got this on dvd a month or so ago & it is a great movie - if they changed the names from Bond, M etc it could be any other decent action thriller i.e. all the cheesy stuff has gone in favour of action and decent acting - I must say that torture scene still makes me wince though
Paul ;)
PS - Watched The Departed last nite - highly recommended too provide you don't mind violence & strong language! Top acting even from Leo D'C ...

watched this the other day... and I was really disappointed - and normally I love bond films

It didn't feel like a bond, there was no big car chase before the intro, and the music seemed subdued during the whole film.

When it finished I was confused. Who was the boyfriend did we ever meet him? Who was Mr White? (Was it the lead piping in the study?)

Maybe I need watch it again (if I can stand it)

Loved the new bond film, more up to date and less cliche stuff. Paulboy, agree with you on the Departed great film really enjoyed watching that.

I enjoyed the first half but later on the film bogged down with the card game, the chase scene on the construction site is amazing though!

Just bought this and Blood Diamond (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). I watched the Bond film a the movies and I enjoyed it just as much this time. But the poor car!

It seems to be that real Bonds fans aren't too keen on this one because it doesn't have all the usual Bond film trademarks, but non Bondies love it! Personally I think it's the best Bond film to date, I love the fact that he is actually fallable - he makes mistakes and feels pain (oooh the torture scene ). But then I've never been a fan of the "so far from reality" Bond format of previous films  I wish they'd had more scenes with the Aston Martin in before they destroyed it though :(

Yes Branson was in the scene at the airport!

I quite enjoyed it but felt a bit queasy at the bit where he had been poisoned (I'm hopeless with medical things!)

All in all, a good film but not a Great one.

might buy it on BD....havent seen it yet

Paulboy - this film only came out on dvd 19th March ??

Anyway, I loved it. I wouldn't say I was a bond 'fan'. But do enjoy a good bond film, but this film is like no other bond film!

Daniel Craig's bond IMO is harder and more 'believable'.

And as for Eva Green !!!

Not an issue if you have a multi-region DVD player :geek: as it came out ages ago on Region 3 (HK) - www.cd-wow.com sell lots of stuff on R3 - the DVDs themselves & packaging are not as good a quality as the UK (R2) or US (R1) DVDs but mainly the film itself is identical (always check before you buy) - Casino Royale 2 disc DVD on R3 cost me £7.99
Slightly OT but "The Good Shepherd" (De Niro's directorial debut) which was only just released in the cinema here in UK comes out on DVD in the US (R1) on 3rd April '07 :woot:
Paul ;)

Cool!

May have to check that out, although am amazed how quick they turn films around from cinema release to dvd these days! Is literally a few months.

BTW I agree about 'The Departed' - stunning film!

:)

I saw it at the flix and like Hacker... I really enjoyed the first half.
I found Daniel Craig very easy on the eye, but I found the twist with his love interest very sickly & cliched ... especially the underwater scene in vVnice.

Prob worth a visit to Blockbusters again though, and after hiring 'Marie Antoinette' last night, which apart from the amazing costumes, was like watching paint dry ... Im sure Bond will hit my buttons! ;)

The Departed
Prestige
Blood Diamond and The Illuionist are all crackers

Prob worth a visit to Blockbusters again though,

Glo
Don't forget the film can be picked up for only £7 at Asda and Tesco's ..... ..... with it being £4 for a rental it's worth purchasing IMO

I agree with that , one night rental or twice the cost to keep it , so I bought it :)

Blood Diamond

100% agree with that mate, seen that twice now in the last few days. certainly an excellent film. Heard alot of good things about the departed though and really want to see it now :D

The Departed is well worth a watch, great cast too - Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson & Leo - he has come a long way since Titanic IMO !!

:)

 Joe - When I saw you'd posted I was sure you'd be sobbing over the car wreck scene - shows what a good judge of character I am :embarrassed:
Paul ;)

I almost cried at that scene, what a waste :shake:

:agree: - In an old style Bond movie they would have dragged that out for five minutes but in CR it its more "shocking" the way they did it imho - that said I'd still like to have seen a bit more of the Aston :bonk:
Paul ;)

I particularly liked the pre-credit sequence in 'Harry Palmer' style black and white, with the odd camera angles. How many noticed that it was an homage to 'The Ipcress File'?

Loved the new Bond movie, Daniel Craig is the most physical and exciting yet but was disappointed everytime he opened his mouth. He just doesn't have that Sean Connery drawl or the sophistication of Brosnan or Moore - nothing wrong with that except for us ladies it's escapism, we like the whole package. ;)

By coincidence I have 'The Departed' to watch tonight. I'm with Amazon's Rental Club which is first class, Casino Royale was despatched on the day of release.

I think people forget that this was the very first Bond novel, long before he had any special gadgets and toys and his buddy Q. He was purely a killer and relied on his instincts and training. It's about time they got back to the nitty-gritty that is James Bond. I was a bit sceptical when I saw Craig cast as Bond but he did a magnificent job. Reminded me a bit of Lazenby/Dalton era Bond. Excellent movie.
