Cars for sale with exported warning?

i was idling on motors.co.uk and I noticed in the helpful history check thingy a few cars were marked as exported.

Autotrader only marks cat C and D write offs. Motors site marks up those imported and exported and shows month and year of actual registration. Very handy.

Is an export marker basically a red light which screams stolen or disguised identity?
 
Not necessarily. Main thing to check is are the specs the same as a UK model & depending on age, is the manufacturers warranty valid. (presuming you mean `imported` to the UK?)
 
No. I mean exported. That's what's weird. They are supposed to be in another country rather than in the UK still.
 
If the car has both an exported and imported marker (obviously with the exported marker being the first date) it should be no problem, people have been known to take their cars out of the country if they move abroad and then brought it back with them. As long as all the paperwork marries up its no prob. If the car is showing as being exported but not re-imported I would be very wary.
 
I'd assume the marker is exactly because the car with that identity has been declared exported but not re-imported.

Annoyingly there is no explanation on the motors site that I could find about what their history check status thingies actually meant and how serious they were.

Tempted to list my car to find out when it actually came to the UK!
 
Thanks. I think it's just easier to ignore any listed with any kind of marker :)

I think if you use the vehicle check thingy on the .gov site it will tell you when it was first imported into the UK as that will be the date of first registration.

Not necessarily, it very much depends on how well the paperwork was filled in when it got here. My car according to the logbook is simply a Mitsunbishi, doesn't have a model and the date of first registration appears as 1998, the same as it's build date but registered keepers are only listed since 2006!
 
Ah. I checked my skyline and that had first registration of July 99 I think which is when I know it was imported. I assumed accuracy. My bad :D

This is the DVLA and car dealers we're talking about - accuracy never enters into it! ;)
