Anybody had anything to do with them.

I bought A Billingham SP50 shoulder strap from them via their Ebay site, what I received was obviously not brand new and unopened, the polythene packaging was grubby and crumpled something had been ripped off the front of it and one corner had been cut off ! It had obviously been opened before as the sellotape had very little adhesion and had dust and what looked like an animal hair stuck to it, the strap itself from looking at the underside was covered in "bits" and looked like it has been used for a short time.

I have just opened this tonight and immediately messaged them via Ebay so awaiting a reply from them.

I have a feeling this may be one they have had available in the shop for a good period of time to show to customers and that may also account for the packaging being in the state it was.

You don't state whether the item was declared as new on the listing. You haven't given them a reasonable period of time to respond to your email.

Maybe a bit premature to be going all disgusted-from-MumsNet on a public forum?

Bought plenty from them and they are my local camera shop.

Sometimes stock sits on a shelf for a long tie, customers open things, try them. What would you suggest they do with stock that customers try?

Is pristine packaging important?
Is the product damaged?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

LOL there is always one that takes that attitude with a contentious reply !!

You don't state whether the item was declared as new on the listing. .............Did you not read "it was obviously not new " and would that not have given any sensible person a clue to the the Ebay description............... You haven't given them a reasonable period of time to respond to your email........... Of course I do not expect an immediate reply

Maybe a bit premature to be going all disgusted-from-MumsNet on a public forum? ............. I consider your contentious and unjust reply a bit premature in fact I would go as far as to describe it as trolling ! ............

LOL bring it on :banana:another troll. :runaway:

Troll or not. I'm not the one bad mouthing a company on a public forum without giving them an opportunity to even reply to your message.

You're the second person today to do that. Must be that time of year.

You describe my post as bad mouthing a company ?,your attitude and that of your sidekick towards another member of this forum is questionable in my opinion.

I was only stating true fact in describing how I received the item and that was not "bad mouthing a company" as you see it.

Just because someone disagrees with you, it does not make them a troll.

You might at least have had the decency to allow the company to reply, or at least have the chance to do so, before starting this thread.

Ive bought a few items from them through amazon, the items were fine and looked as new (at excellent prices too). Looking at the T&Cs on their similar eBay listings they mention a 7 day return policy so just ask to return the item and get a refund.

LOL bring it on :banana:another troll. :runaway:
That's a little harsh. A couple have posted looking at it another way to yourself to get a different perspective. Yes it's annoying that it seems to be possibily used or ex-display when you expecting a new condition item, but you haven't given them time to respond to the issue, yet come onto a forum (and this may be unintentional/inadvertent) and named and shamed them. No company is ever going to get everything right 100% of the time, it's how they respond and act when things go wrong that's important. Unfortunately there was another thread yesterday regarding another camera store that followed similar lines as your thread hence why you got responses looking at it at from a different perspective.

I've had issues before when buying camera gear. One that springs to mind was a square filter that arrived without the gasket in the box, easily sorted by a quick email, they sent out two gaskets (in case I damaged one putting it on) free of charge straight away. Yes it was annoying it wasn't perfect straight out of the box but it was quickly sorted. Another I had was a memory card slot issue after a couple of weeks. They repaired it under warranty, I was without the camera for two weeks and did two 2hr round trips to drop off and collect (rather than post as I wanted to show the issue and check in the shop afterwards). They were excellent about it and even offered a free loan camera until I could purchase a new body if it couldn't be fixed. At the time new D7000s were not in stock for months due to the tsunami and factories being out of action. Thankfully the repair sorted the issue.

Edit: I was writing this whilst others replied hence it looks like I've repeated what others have said.

Was the item sold as brand new, un-opened? Your original post and all subsequent posts have not made that clear. If the item was not sold specifically as new then you have no cause for complaint.

My sidekick?

You weren't just just stating a fact, your very first line reads "anybody had anything to do with them". Well I have and never had a problem so answered you.

The simple fact is if you have a problem, by all meant complain, but allow them the courtesy or replying (during business hours) and resolving the issue before jumping online.

Looking on eBay they are still listing the item as more are available (multi availability listing) Those items say new, and mention a 7 day return period in the T&Cs so it's a case of contact them, return the item and get a refund. If that's done without any trouble/hassle then this thread can be closed.

Hi Rob, thanks for your input, after being accused of "bad mouthing" and coming on "all disgusted-from-MumsNet" it was appreciated.

I will keep you informed of their response.

I have received a very satisfactory reply from someone called Sean at 8.55 am apologising for posting the shoulder strap in the condition it was and offering a full refund if I send it back. However today is another day and with hindsight yes I could have waited and praised them on here for their swift action but rather than go through the hassle of returning it I have replied saying thank you for the apology and that I have decided to just dust it down and have the use of it now, there was an equally satisfactory reply to that thanking me for my understanding and hope they can make it up to me in the future.

So that draws the matter to a satisfactory closure for me.

I'm glad everything is sorted.

Apologies if I came across a bit abrupt last night. I am an online retailer and look at threads like this from a retailers perspective. We work very hard to provide good customer service and to keep our customers happy. Unfortunately though there are far to many customers that expect the impossible for nothing and are very quick to jump onto forums or review sites or even open Paypal claims before they have bothered to contact us when there is a problem.

We are human just like everybody else and occasionally things don't go to plan. If we are contacted with an issue we will be more than apologetic and do what we can to resolve matters. Opening threads like this on forums or leaving bad reviews isn't going to solve your problem and just leaves a bad taste.

Exactly.

Look, every human activity is prone to error. What distinguishes good retailers from the not-so-good is how they handle it. It sounds like Carmarthen Cameras have handled this as well as anyone could reasonably expect. As I'd expect from them.
