The contrast between the living and the dead works well for the theme emphasized by the colour contrast, well done.
Thanks Chris. It seemed like the thing to do although it was in fact my second choice, my first was to find a contrast in the local cemetery e.g. moss on headstone.
Good idea Carl, I have been thinking of something similar, but not got out yet, very good contrast of plants :)
Thanks DK. Saw the relationship between the two plants and it seemed to be just the thing.
I might have liked a different perspective, mainly to get all the ling plant in but i'm not sure if this was possible.
Thank you Andy. I like the dead hydrangea too .... strangely. I know what you mean about the POV - I would have done that if it didn't mean lying prone on soggy muddy ground; as it was, I was lazy and made do on one knee.
I'm with Andy on this, a lower perspective may have worked a bit better, but that's a hyper criticism if I'm honest.
No, fair comment I think; I know within myself that it would have been far better if all that bare ground between the plants was excluded by a lower POV.

pretty much my thoughts too Carl, Have fun playing with off camera flash, something I would like to try more too.
Yeah, really looking forward to learning to put OCF to good use. The Speedlite has been gathering dust for a while; about time it worked for it's keep and had a proper airing.

Hi Carl, not a fan of the composition its a good idea but way too busy and unbalanced

Great contrast between the living plant and the dried out one! Strange to see soil that is not underwater!! Strong end to a solid year.
Thank you Richard. Thankfully we've dodged the worst of the nasty wet stuff ... so far.

Hi Allan. I must admit the only part of the image I really do like is the near-3d effect on the dead hydrangea ... but mostly having my first OCF experience.

Hi Carl ...perfect contrast for the theme and a lovely light on the flowers., nature always manages to give us a splash of colour even on the dullest day :)
Thanks Susie. Very true .. .even at it's lowest, nature still manages to interest; in this case, the dead hydrangea is I think carries beautiful detail.

Went out and got a lower POV for Living ... just as a refinement to the original. Posting the image purely for my reference - no need to comment.

Ahhhh that works much better Carl, I like the subtle light on the dead plant and how it towers over the living plant, a much better angle, the plant seems to nestle on the bottom much better (y)
Thanks DK - got there in the end. Too lazy to get down and dirty first time around ha ha.

Very Christmassy Carl

Very Christmassy Carl (y)
Good bit of holly... got no berries on my holly tree :D I'm liking the shadow on the background giving it some depth, nicely lit too, a good finish to your 52 mate (y)
Thanks PHP and DK. Enjoyed the entire 2015 TP52 - roll on the 2016 season .... but first, (another) slug or nine from that bottle of Jack D's.

Hi, nice simple finish for the year Carl, look forward to next years (y)

Hi Carl, I can't see your first submission for Living but I'm really liking the one I can see. The living plant nestled in the shade of the dead one is a great idea (y)

Christmas is definitiely very Christmassy. It's got a great sense of depth to it and a brill composition too. Fab finish to 2015 and hope to see you in 2016 too as I enjoy following your submissions  :p

That's a nice simple, effective shot there Carl Good use of complimentary colours and an effective use of DoF.

Thank you Tim, thanks Allan, thanks Jill. Hope you all had a great Christmas. I'm ready to dust the cobwebs off and get cracking again. Quite a starting line-up for next year - glad to see you all there and looking forward to seeing your posts - I am always amazed at the differing and clever interpretations. Let's get cracking eh!

Crumbs I'd forgotten 2015 ....was it only yesterday :) Super end to the year Carl....really looking forward to following your shots in 2016.
Ha ha - seems like a while past .. .probably helped by the fact that the 2016 challenge kicked off early. Thanks Susie - looking forward to seeing yours too. It's a brilliant forum - love the fun and banter.

Too Christmassy for words. ;)
