Car Suggestions?

SQ5 is quite cute :)

I found it way smaller inside than passat with significantly poorer visibility, particularly towards front / passenger side (bonnet is too far raised) and the rear. Not a problem on M-way but a huge issue in countryside. I've not driven it so can't comment on the rest. As you can guess I'll eventually home in on Q5 / X5 / XC60 but for now it is big estate time.

Passat it is, and money for that job put aside that lunches engines. Passat is a nice car, I borrowed one once, seemed as comfy almost as my E class.

E220cdi estate (06 to 09) would be great for you. Or V70/XC70 or S80.

Age/miles/budget being the factors you need to look at.

a 3 series is a depressing pile of over priced tack, same with a c class or a4. If you want a premium experience you need a 5 series, E class, or A6 minimum.

................

I had a 5 series BMW and my C Class is much better in comfort and performance (and that was before BMW went to hard as rocks, deer as F***, runflats) !

Mondeo is a cracking car, very quiet and comfortable. Better than a Golf, A3 and probably better than a c or 3 series for space and comfort. Passat is a fine car too, practically as good as a 5 series for NVH in my experience.

Before settling on the 330d M Sport I looked at and drove quite a few other makes and models. With us having a Golf GTD and never having problems with VW over the past ten years I wanted to like the Passat but it was nowhere near the BMW in terms of comfort, performance or space which surprised me. I also looked at the 520, 420 Coupe, E220, C220 and A4 & A5. All fine cars to a point but when people are talking about lack of space in the 3 series it makes me wonder if they have been in one recently. Plenty of space in mine and the interior is pretty luxurious and adaptable. The E220 was cramped, as was the A5. The 520 had a bit more space but there is rarely more than 2 of us in the car so it wasn't needed. I was very close to purchasing the 4 series GT which was lovely but it was slightly larger than I needed. There are so many good cars around nowadays, its all down to personal choice and perception. The 330 is for me the balance between performance, size and luxury that I need. I am still loving it........

A 3 series more spacious than an E class? Hmmm that must be why all taxi drivers choose the 3 series...Oh wait a minute???

Sorry bud I'm not buying that one at all, I appreciate perception as much as the next person but lets also stay in reality....

I had a c class sport and found the seats a bit tight, shoulder and headroom a bit squeezed compared to the 5 series both my mates had.

Compact execs, just not my thing. They are entry level cars IMHO

It seems so. Oh and also that you have to indicate first and only then look to see whether you can actually move lanes.
I thought it went like this,
1) Change lanes,
2) Check mirror to see what mayhem you caused
3) and if appropriate indicate, with middle finger, if the driver they just cut up, doing said manoeuvre, is disgruntled.

I see many doing similar, but also WITHOUT indicating at all when pulling out..................only to then indicate when pulling back in!

Also, how many folk joining the m/way leave the slip road.............. then shoot straight across to the outside lane!

I wait 1s, indicate and only then finish shooting across :P Some numpty at the very end of slip road or already on a hard shoulder needs the space to join in.

Yup that is me, to overtake the slow coaches.

TBH I don't really have an issue with that, IF there is plenty of space to do it safely,
Its the Muppets that do that, without pausing or checking to see if there is space to do it, and "cut up" at least two lanes of cars in the process!
They see space in the middle lane and proceed to to outside lane, and assume they can make the jump to light speed, without a clear view of the
outside lane, because the chances are, the middle lane convoy is blocking their view of the outside lane(s)

In that case I revoke me earlier statement, that is not me....apart from the lightspeed bit ;)

Was going to go for the 335d but because of the facelift coming up all new orders won't arrive until the end of the year so had to look at what's left in stock and there's only 330d's. Ended up going for one of these and at £280 per month for three years which includes servicing and is 15k miles per year it's a decent enough deal.

anything with a Ford Ecoboost in it - they're incredible!

[EDIT] Just seen that you've made up your mind! Enjoy the new car :)

I've driven plenty of 3 series. Epic handling but lack shoulder, head and rear leg room and the interior fittings of the f30 one are pretty lousy compared to the f10 5 series

This from someone who drives a S80. Crap ride, noisy suspension and vague steering. Mediocre interior. Drops in value faster than a stone down a well. Comfy seat though.
