I am looking to get a clamp to go onto my car seat headrest to take shots like below.

Any ideas where I can get one from & has anyone used one at all?
 
Can you strap a tripod or monopod between the headrest supports? Gaffer tape / cable ties work well.

I did a similar shot with my tripod (independant legs) and had the tripod with one leg in both rear foot wells and the third on the back seat. Was actually pretty steady - enough for night light trails...
 
I have seen them but they were very expensive mate (Linky). Have you got a tripod ? I was playing about with this idea the other week (Linky) by simply wedging the tripod in between the seats and wrapping the seatbelt around it. It would be alot cheaper unless you intend doing alot of this type of photography ............

Its actually YOUR fault btw macker im trying to do this now :lol: think ill try strapping it in if not ill buy something – have found a small shop that does them but its still £25 which isn’t a arm and a leg I suppose – also I can attach my camcorder to it at the ring ;)
 
interesting idea i may hae to try it sometime!
it has to be done at night though!

Having a tripod or similar strapped to the seat/headrest would be a bit of a giveaway and setting it all up while on the track would be just a little foolish...

have you been to the ring? :shrug:

there is a separate entrance elsewhere and there is another way of doing it but im not going to disclose it :thumbs:
 
For Nurburgring use, if you want to risk recording it, is to have a lipstick camera hidden somewhere, but its a bit risky.

For many other track days they're happy for video recorders to be used, provided the system is attached firmly.

in fairness i used the ring as a example but i do various track days around the UK aswell :thumbs:

you could make one quite easily.

Basically a section of square section tube. With an additional length which is used to clamp against the headrest supports - ideally faced both sides with rubber to prevent scratches or damage to trim. Holes drilled through with nut and bolt fastening and this is used to clamp it to the head rest.

You could clamp against the other headrest, but this assumes that both seats are in exactly the same position. Instead, maybe something like a cheap monopod could be attached going to the floor - this may help reduce vibration.

Somewhere in the middle a head of some description from a tripod with a quick release plate.
 
ill try knocking a few designs up and give them to my dad to do he needs a project now hes retired :lol:

Exactly what I do and very steady. Wedge the third leg betreen the seat and backrest too if you can.

i saw a camera clamp before that stuck on the window - i thought i could stick it to my sunroof and do the above but TBH my camera is JUST to heavy :shake:

ill have a go at making my own and clamping the tripod in the rear seat etc :D

Its ok mate! Ill get one later as the site is blocked in work – the actual site is the one site posted above! But there are more options!

Going to try making something and then if not ill pay for one :)
 
Sorry it's taken a while to post this, but a few years ago I bought just the very thing from Jessops, though at the time it was for use when flying microlights. I don't know if these are even available anymore. All it says on it is "UNI-LOC". Basically it's a strap which you pull tight and then tension with a bar which forms part of the handle. Once in place it's very solid and doesn't shift at all. The head is fully adjustable. Might help someone track down something similar...

Hopefully the pic says it all...

If you can't find one of those a Manfrotto Superclamp (around £20) might do the job for you. I've certainly rigged up a similar setup coupled with a small Manfrotto ballhead which worked fine
