I posted this in the welcome forum but was advised to post it in here, may get a few more results.

Recently i,ve been taking a lot of night shots but hav,nt got the desired effect that I want yet ie: reasonable clarity, also I would like to learn about taking photo's at night of moving objects ie: cars with the effect of streaming lights.
I hope to apply many of the tips and tricks that anyone could provide.

TRIPOD!!!!!

Then start looking at exposure times and aperture settings. Google searching or the search on here should bring back loads of results.

What camera & lenses are using?

Lots of cars at night stuff :)

Theres some good photos there, but thats not going to teach the o/p how to shoot at night is it.

As mentioned, get a tripod and find the spot you want to shoot. Put your camera in manual mode and try shooting with the aperture at f8 and a shutter speed of about 10 seconds.

Camera must stay rock steady whilst the shutter is open so bear this in mind. !

If the result is too bright, either up the aperture value to f10 or more, OR decrease the shutter speed to maybe 5 seconds.

If its too dark, do the opposite of the above !

Make sure you show us some results !

Have fun !

Now I know these are not technically perfect but this was my first attempt. Hope it helps.

Not exactly a car, but an example of what you can get long shutter and moving vehicles

Just wondered what the best White Balance setting is for streetlamp lit night photos?

Auto or Tungsten I think, might be wrong though, go with auto !

Well I went out tonight to try out a few suggestions from you guys, must of took 100 shots but still not happy with the results (still its my 1st time though).
Went round my G/friends house and took a couple of pics of the pets as well.

You could do with dropping the ISO a bit too as its quite noisy !

try 100 or 200, 100 preff.

if you do that and turn the IS off, you should have a shot you'll be happy with !
