Car Insurance

Mine went up by 90% or so got an email before the new quote arrived saying I may not like it ( they got something right). Shopped arround on the comparison site and got it dow to £25 more than last years now with Beam which is basically the AA so settled for that

my 21 year old daughter passed her test today ( yay no more dads taxi ) she bought herself a little kia picanto to practice driving and the learner insurance was 1200 quid for the year but now she has passed she had to insure as a full uk licence holder

the cheapest quote was £4100 TPFT we tried everything to get the quote down
comprehensive was £5,500
add another driver didn't matter who it was or how much driving experience ( we tried a few to see if it made a difference ) cheapest quote was over £8,000

did the usual juggling with excess and miles driven with no real saving

at the end of the day she had to bite the bullet and go for the £4,100 on monthly payments

she's out there right now somewhere making the most of her new found freedom :)

I thought the government introduced law to prevent insurance cos from giving new customers better terms than existing customer. I suppose this still doesn't prevent them from hiking the premiums. But would a new customer with the same profile as you have been quoted £300 or £409?

Received my policy renewal quote from Churchill yesterday, increased from £266 last year to £409!! Checked quotes on comparison sites and several nearer £300 for the equivalent policy. Rang Churchill and managed to get my renewal down to £300.70 after reminding them I also have my house insurance with them. Result!

None too sure what they paid but our great nephew & neice had the black box (not sure perhaps an app on the phone?) and that apparently saved a significant amount in the first year/18 months and now becoming more independent. The nephew bought himself a nice Mini S and pays all his own insurance etc AFAIK

The guy on the phone mentioned I have been with them for many years without problems and he acknowledged the fact I have the house insurance with them also. When I checked Churchill on the comparison sites it was coming up at £360 so it was well worth calling them.

That’s horrendous. My son passed his test a couple of years ago, we bought him a fiesta 1.2. First year insurance, fully comp, no black box was £1200. Second year we got it down to £800

if she would have passed a couple of years ago i know the insurance would have been less than half she is paying now but on average insurance has risen 40% this year alone
it wasn't practical to have a black box because she works shifts and more or less all of them have curfews where you get penalised after certain hours

hopefully next year the price will be more digestible
